application won't launch

I have a couple of applications, that when you click the launcher icon you see a quick flash, and a box opens, and then nothing happens

trying to figure out what is going on?

running on win 8.1 with 16GB ram

Have you tried right clicking on the launch icon, and select 'run as administrator'? Was the issue after a Windows update? Have they always worked and suddenly quit working?

If that doesn't help, and if it is only a couple programs, maybe something became corrupted. You might try reinstalling them.

I have tried numerous times to reinstall.

The icon is there but it is not colored like a full application, it has a generic icon, not a real application associated icon

When you tried to reinstall it, did you attempt to uninstall it first? Did it successfully uninstall? Has the programs always worked? How long? Did you recently install Windows Updates or any other program like anti-virus? We need specifics to provide more accurate instructions.

You might want to also scan your drive to see if there are any issues (it will be the same for Windows 8.1):

Also try to run the program from it's .exe file in the directory where it is installed. If it works, then just recreate a new desktop shortcut to the application.
