My fridge began leaking water this weekend (Ice maker and filtered water) so I called a repair guy. He came by a few hours later, check the "usual" problem with these fridges and it was not the problem, and didn't really check anything else. He was here for maybe 15 minutes and charged my $65 plus tax for the service call. He said to me that if it leaks again, he will come back and fix it and NOT charge me a service call fee and deduct the service charge from the repair bill.

Fast forward to today. I have been leaving him messages to call me back since Sunday. Finally got a call back today. I told him it is still leaking and he basically told me to find the leak and he would come and fix it. I told him I can't see where it is coming from, just that there is water on the floor when I turn the water supply on, and no water on the floor when I turn it off. He said he will not come back until I find the leak....I am not about to start pulling my fridge apart, this is what appliance repair guys are for, no?

Cliffs:

-Repair guy came out to find/fix a water leak on my fridge
-Spent 15 minutes looking at the usual leaky parts -- not the problem
-Did not spend any time looking elsewhere
-Charged me $65 plus tax for call
-Still leaks
-Took 4 days to return my call
-Told ME to find the leak and call him to fix it, he will not come back until then

This is about as bad as the guy that paid like $400 to have a 'locksmith' drill out his locks.

He's a scammer, likely a front for some other income.

Deny charge, call a 'real' plumber.

So why did you pay him when he did nothing? Fix it bitch, that's why I fucking called you.

So he came out and didnt fix it? Why would you pay him?

I'd dispute.

He told me that if he had to come back, he would not charge me a service call fee, and would deduct the initial service call fee from the repair.

I'd dispute.

this. he wouldnt have left with any of my money. i had a plumber come to my house, then 5 minutes into the visit tell me hes not allowed to get on the roof to snake the main. i told him thanks for coming, cya. he still expected the money for the call! i told him he didnt do anything, and admitted that he was not allowed to do the service i called him out for. no money for him. he was pissed, and told me he couldnt leave without money. so, i pulled out a check, told him id write it but would be on the phone with the bank before he drove away putting a stop payment on it. he said never mind and left. ill never call that place again.

Yeah I'd dispute the charge. He obviously has no intent of actually fixing anything. Can't believe he wants YOU to find out what the problem actually is. That's what the first $65 was for. F'n moron.

I agree with what you did, but my guy told me he would deduct service charge from the repair if it continued to leak. This is why I paid him for a service call. Now he refuses to come out and find the leak.

It happened to me once earlier this year, fridge problem. Called sears to come and fix our fridge, the guy took at the fridge, didn't do anything and asked for a $ 55 fee and then he would fixed it for another $150 more. I told him to get the fuck out.

Called up a local fridge repair guy, really nice guy, paid $100. But he got the shit done as expected and the fridge working brand spankin new.

dispute the charge or tell him you "found the leak" and when he comes out say "oh that wasn't it? sorry I'm not an appliance repair guy"

ya, thats crap. dispute it. even if he came out, you know he will up the repair cost to cover that 65 you already gave him.

hehe my ex step dad called sears to come out and fix our freezer that suddenly quit. summertime in az, he was bitching to them to hurry up or they will pay for the food. the service guy charged him 145 bucks, plugged in the freezer and smirked at him while doing it. he deserved it. the plug had gotten knocked out a smidge while he was messing with stuff in the garage and never thought to check it. i now always check plug ins before anything, thanks ex step dad, for the life lesson!

Put a tray or something under the fridge to catch the water. Turn the water on and let it leak into the tray. Call him, "I found the leak!" When he arrives, point to the tray of water. "It's leaking right there." When he says that he meant you had to find the point in the fridge where the water was coming from "I don't know how to do that. I'm not an appliance repairman. If you're not, then you're a fraud, and I'm going to call the BBB & also dispute the charge that I paid you originally."

I basically did that, but instead I used my floor as a tray.
