Anyone here have any expirence with appliance insurance? My A/C have died and i need to have coil changed whch will cost me around $1400,it was caused by origional installer after whom i will go, but in the mean time i need to get it fix. Do Appliance insurance cover preexisting conditions, also anyone know how long you have to have it before you can use it?

$1400 just for the A-coil? I had a whole new AC with new A-coil SEER 13, 2.5tons installed for about that much. This was like 3 months ago, oh that reminds me, I am still waiting for the $300 rebate from my electric company, so its really $1100.

Yes $1400. We have central A/C and they put the cheapest one they could so it ends costing us more to change it then for them to have put it in :( So will Appliance insurance cover it, if just call it and pretend to be dumb and just say my A/C is not working and let them diagnosit instead of just telling them what's wrong?

not sure about the insurance, but coil dont go bad usually, all they do is cool down the air, etc, there is no moving part inside, they usually get rusted, have a hole in it, or get plugged up. how do you know it's the coil? you might need a new compressor, thats the most expensive part, around $800, the coil is around $300ish.

let me repharse.

About 3-4 month ago m y ac started blowing warm air.I called A/C repair company and they cleaned out the hole system as the previous installer was careless in installing it and didn't even put filter on the ac system it self and dirty got in to the line. It cost me 625.00 for that repair. After about a month it stop working again, so i called them out and they came out and recleaned the system for free just to make sure it wasn't there fault. At that time they said if it happens again then coil will need to be changed as dirt got in to the coil and its not possible to clean it. I have bad coil as you can't open it you just have to replace it. The quote that they gave me was $1400.00. The compressor on my A/C is fine i wished it was compressor as i have 5 year warranty. The hole system is comming up on 2 years old

This makes no sense. The last time they were there, they cleaned it, and installed the missing filter. After they left, it was working, right? How did it get so dirty in the mean time? The system is sealed, so how did dirt get in the line in the first place? :confused:

There's got to be more than one place that can repair that thing. Get some more estimates!

there is still dirt in the coil, which got in when it was being installed by first a/c company. This tech try to get as much of dirt out of coil as he could be there is still dirt left. Because the opening in the pipes that connect to coil is really small just tiny ammount of dity clogs it up. The system worked for about 1/1 2 before filter was installed

I don't know for sure, but I believe the lines have at least a 1/4" ID, probably more like 3/8". Only filter I know of, is the air filter, and if they blew the dust off the fins, it couldn't have gotten that dirty. A-coil diagram.

Get some more quotes. This sounds like a scam or something.

Hmmm, I do see tiny capillary tubes on this one.

I paid $2400 for a SEER 13, 5 ton unit installed in May. Just got my rebate of $450 from SDG&E. It takes a while.

sounds like this place is charging a lot for everything. the filter you are talking, I think it is the freon filter/dryer, I think my installer charged me $40 for it. I think you need to find another AC company. check out www.hvac-talk.com , tons of info there.

You're right, Chris. There's a suction-line filter drier. If somebody built the system without that, who knows what may get screwed up?
