Damn, I see some stiff headwinds for Verizon/Moto if they do this, and it's the 2nd source I've seen for the rumor.

especially when it comes to CPU power.

I don't think anyone gave a crap that HTC's 528mhz and Apple's iPhone 3G was a 422mhz (?) ARM11 chip.

No one really cared until Apple announced the 3GS and the Cortex A8 came into the open because the PC enthusiasts dug through the iPhone like a computer.

No one really complained the 3G or 2G were slow phones and couldn't play their games well enough. Only when the 3GS comes out does everyone go "omg we need this faster phone now."

But slowly we'll see smartphones transition more into PC-like capabilities and specs will matter more and more, but for now it's a little overrated. I mean certainly 128mb RAM like on a N97 + 434 mhz ARM11 + S60v5 = fail but for the most part, are we here to play FPS games on our phones? I mean if you're one of the guys who follows TouchArcade and downloads every graphics intensive game for the iPhone then maybe, but otherwise I think even the old 3G phone was fast enough for what people do.

But yes 3MP is outdated. So is 5MP anyway.

I think Apple might push the 3G more, and I would say it's an attractive price. I think this evens the playing field a little. Might cause people to not want to switch anymore because you get a great touchphone on both sides...
