Just wait for when the iphone is released for Verizon. And remember this is only in the US. The iphone is available on multiple carriers over seas.

Kicking android ass big time there too.

iPhone would be just another Palm Pre on Verizon.

I doubt that, I have plenty of friends that are itching to get the iPhone on Verizon, because they do not like AT&T.

Pre Plus sales have been disappointing considering how impressive WebOS is. Hopefully HP can change that with some new hardware and decent marketing.

The numbers will mean more when there are more Android devices (think mp3 players, tablets) available to purchase, since Apple's share is all lumped together.

Well like everyone talked about in the other thread, Android devices without Google services aren't counted.

The quantcast numbers exclude the iPad. The Net Applications numbers include the iPad. Neither are based on units sold. They are based on the number of devices on the Internet.

Also as far as numbers, I've activated numerous Android phones multiple time with Google services after installing custom roms.

I suspect I've activated "Google Services" 50 times on my 4 Android phones.

I honestly don't understand why you would think that the iPhone would come to Verizon. It's a CDMA network. Why would Apple want to even put money into developing a CDMA based iPhone for one carrier in one country? They could just open it up to T-Mobile and that would open it up to more people and relieve stress on AT&T's network.

CDMA isn't in just one country, it is in parts of Eastern Europe, Russia, China and other parts of Asia. The largest TeleCo in Brazil is CDMA, as is a lot of S. America. And of course, the largest TeleCo in the US, Verizon is also CDMA.

So, if you think that Apple wasn't working on a CDMA prototype since day 1, then you are just deluding yourself. Just like how they were working on OS X for intel 6 years before it actually came out. A good company keeps its options open, that is what Dell, just like every other OEM parts from multiple sources.

However, all that is irrelevant. My understanding is that LTE is coming to both AT&T and Verizon, the hardware is going to be the same, it is just the encryption that is different. But why wait until then? Why not roll out a CDMA phone before LTE (just like how they rolled out the original iPhone sans 3G) so you can hit every customer and every customer can see what the performance is like.

ummm, it isn't really news to tell everybody that the biggest player is the biggest player. Duh.

The first real Android device diidnt come out until late 2009 (Droid). The second one came out in April (Incredible). Things are just getting started.

First "real device"? What was 2008's G1 then? A toasted biscuit?

But according to google, only the first activation counts.

The "Android is stealing market share from Apple" statement I see everywhere is misleading. Apple is losing from an absolute market share perspective but because the smart phone market is growing, Apple is actually selling more iPhones than previously. Don't feel sad for Apple just yet guys.

I saw it on Engadget where Qualcomm had an Apple iPhone job listing. Hmm....a CDMA chipset provider looking for engineers to work on iPhone related stuff?

hence the "market share" part.

I don't understand why its so hard for Apple guys to understand that people do like choice and that Android is a viable option for most users. Not just tech nerds that want to run Linux on their phone.

I hope you're not accusing me of being an Apple guy. I'm trying to be neutral. The problem as I see it is that a lot of people have this hatred of Apple. They have to spin this as a loss by Apple when it's anything but. From a market share perspective it looks like Apple is indeed losing but when you're moving more widgets than in previous years and making money hand over fist is that really a loss? No. The market is more than big enough for both Android and iOS to thrive. Now is that so hard to understand?

Its always been my point that the market is big enough. The fact is that Apple guys have always bragged about market share over sales numbers. Well now that Android is beating them in sales and market share....well people are defensive

Market share is interesting but I've never boasted about Apple's market share. I use it in discussions as a fact but that's about it. I don't own any Apple or Google shares. Them making more or less money doesn't affect me in any major way unless they were to go out of business and I'm left with a device and no support.
