So I'm going to donate my old ECS L7VTM KT400 board to my sister's ageing Celeron 700 box, and add a Duron 1.8Ghz. Question is, will this board support it?

Does anyone know the prerequesites- i.e. bus speed, chipset support etc? I've emailed ECS but no reply yet (sigh).

Cheers!

It's 9 months old. I wouldn't call that "really old".

Anyone have some useful information please?

I know it should support it, but I want to be certain, given the return policy of Overclockers.co.uk

Thanks Dennis Travis :)

And ^Sniper^ - yeah, you'd think, I was just worried that it might not detect it properly. I mean, the Duron 1.6/1.8 chips are fairly new, newer than the KT400 (I think? Correct me...). Hell, I'll just have to resort to multiplier and FSB work if it doesn't right? :D

It should work fine, the Durons use a 266MHz FSB so even a KT266a should run it. Who cares if it's properly identified?

Very true, but it's the perfectionist in me that wants things working exactly, damnit :D ;)

Having said that, the perfectionist thing is probably why I took almost a day to rebuild my rig.

May need a BIOS update for proper detection, other than that, no problemo.

Just update the BIOS. Worst case scenario is that the BIOS comes up with "unknown CPU" but boots up at 1.8Ghz.
