OMAS, N.M. (KOB) - Applebee's is investigating a customer's claim that she found a metal bolt in her hamburger.

Diana Almarez says the burger her sister ordered Sunday at an Applebee's in Albuquerque, New Mexico came with a metal bolt embedded in the meat.

"She bit into it and got a funny look on her face and we said what's wrong?" Almarez said. "As she kind of pulled the slider out of her mouth a little bit, there was this bolt."

A spokesman for Applebee's says they are grateful that the customer is safe.

They say they are reviewing the matter to determine the origin of the object and to insure that the food handling protocol was followed.

This happened to me when I was in college eating at the cafeteria. No idea how these things get in there. I found it digging into my plate... didn't give a shit, just ate around it. :p

im surprised people dont find more junk like frogs, bugs, cigarette buttes etc in their food. all that stuff is out there in the fields, it would seems almost impossible to separate from the foods being picked

FYI beef does not grow on plants, and is not picked by fieldhands.

I want to say "bullshit", trying to get a settlement out of them... but it's possible. When I worked at a restaurant we had these flat steel plates with wooden handles that you would use to help sear two sides at once, and the screws on those handles would work themselves loose. We finally got worried enough that somebody was going to end up with a screw in their food that just took the handles off, threaded some coat hangers through the holes and only handled them with spatulas.

The bolt in the OP seems way too big for that, but there's all sorts of equipment involved in the business.

I worked at a movie theatre when I was 16. All the machines were falling apart. Someone found a screw in their popcorn.

theres no way it was cooked like that. the customer is either a liar or an employee did that deliberately, im betting it was the former

This. There's no way the patty would stay together while cooking with that in it. Somebody's just looking for a payday.

Something similar happened to my brother 15-20 years ago at some Mexican restaurant.

The screw was a lot smaller, but it was a blender screw that came off when they were making a taco (blender to make a taco... yea Mexican restaurant).

That bolt came loose out of the patty pressing machine and got pressed into the patty. If you are looking for a payday you would put something grosser in than a bolt, that thing isn't even sharp.

Pretty easy to lose things in ground beef. Also pretty easy for a customer to place a bolt in their burger hoping to score a settlement from the restaurant.

Sue!! I'd sue for 100 million, and settle out of court for 1 million.

When I was a teen working at a pizza place I was putting sauce on a pizza and there was a large bolt in the sauce. It came loose from the metal shield that rotated down over the toppings when we weren't making pizzas.
