Yeah, they really padded their statement. Sneaky tactics highlighted in bold:

We recently discovered that a small number - less than 1% - of the Video iPods available for purchase after September 12, 2006, left our contract manufacturer carrying the Windows RavMonE.exe virus. This known virus affects only Windows computers, and up to date anti-virus software which is included with most Windows computers should detect and remove it. So far we have seen less than 25 reports concerning this problem. The iPod nano, iPod shuffle and Mac OS X are not affected, and all Video iPods now shipping are virus free. As you might imagine, we are upset at Windows for not being more hardy against such viruses, and even more upset with ourselves for not catching it.

Less than 1%...that means that if 1 million Video iPods were sold, then there would be 10,000 iPods infected. After saying that, they immediately put the blame on their contract manufacturer, then target Windows as their scapegoat before blaming themselves...in the last half of the very last line. It's padded in enough of a conversational format that you don't really see them doing it. Sneaky! :)

yeah, they're insufferably and unjustifiably elitist.

Still, it could be worse...they could be a pharmaceutical company. "Some of our painkillers accidentally shipped with traces of E. Coli. Needless to say, we are upset with the elderly, small children, and the disabled for having weak immune systems which render them susceptible to such an infection...."

Amen. Apple honestly assumes that Windows is the worst OS around. Even a monkey could surf teh pr0n sites and not get anything with the right software. Not that hard...

Maybe if companies like Symantec and McAfee weren't such babies when it comes to locking down Windows too.....

It's funny that your analogy is right on the money.

Apple sucks. What a bunch of jerks. They ship a sub-par product but they blame the end-user if the machine become infected. I have no desire to purchase anything from Apple.

*sub-par = not up to quality standards. If I buy a product, I would expect it to be virus-free.

have the pharmeceutical companies actually said that? if so, damn. otoh, they do offer free medications to people who can't afford it (not trying to justifty their actions, just saying that they DO happen to have a good side)

Apple = pure marketing BS.

I hope they get slapped a huge law suit by the same dumb greedy elitest people who would buy such crappy products.

Wow, there's some venom there. Care to share a bad experience with Apple from your past? :laugh:

I am sorry but if you have never owned a Mac product before than you have no right to speak. I recently purchased a MacBook to see what the fuss was about and I have to say it is the most elegent, well-built piece of hardware I have ever purchased (I have purchased a lot of computer hardware since the pre-Pentium days). I am not completly sold on OSX, even though it has a lot of features that beat the pants off of Windows but they also have a lot of work to do. Don't hate on Apple just because you think it is the cool thing to do.

I've owned a Mac product (several actually). Therefore:

Apple = pure marketing BS.
