Plays back music, movies, and photos on your TV.

I think it's an interesting device. It may take off because of the consumer market...plug it in, download stuff on iTunes, watch on your TV. The thing that's hard to swallow, aside from it requiring a widescreen TV (ED or HD capable of 1080i), is the price of the content. $0.99 music - fine. $1.99 for a TV show - a little high. New movies - $14.99! For that amount I can get a Netflix subscription and watch as many movies as I want without taking up any space on my computer's hard drive. Plus the player is $299. Ouch. Or you could just get a modded Xbox and do all of that and more.

disappointed. $300 is a lot, and only works w/ iTunes I presume. The slingcatcher looks like it will be a big hit though. $200 and will stream ANY media to the tv. Altho.. if it's interface sucks...

I'll give the Apple TV one thing, it's sleek as hell.

I'm an Apple fanboy, yet I don't see the appeal of the Apple TV. I have an HTPC, why would I need this.

If it had a DVR and they also released an expandable home server, I could see it being useful. And if it was maybe $99 or $199. But my modded Xbox does all that and more for less than half the cost.

YOU don't need this.

However, the many, many, many people who have no clue/time/or desire to build an HTPC may find this very attractive.

It's a yawner, especially for those of us who have a Xbox 360.
