Apple to make 512MB the minimum

Wow, finally!!

I used 256mb on my Mac Mini for a few weeks. It was enough to run GarageBand and Safari at the same time. Or Firefox, Mail, and Appleworks. But I wasn't able to work with a very large project in iMovie without first quitting all other major applications (paging out to a notebook drive SUCKS). If you're a grandpa user, you can probably squeeze by with 256mb and never notice the difference, but if you're actually going to make real use of some of the bundled applications, you really really need 512mb!! Another thing I noticed was that after I upgraded to 1gb, applications launched / relaunched much faster even hours or days after I last quit them. I'm guessing that Mac OS X keeps those applications in some sort of ram cache if there's room for it.
