Apple to introduce Netbook line

Something I found interesting and that will be hopefully be damning to an Apple netbook.

To succeed, a netbook needs strong software, an online delivery system for that software and "enforced limits" on the supported peripherals,

I can't speak for everyone, but the entire concept of enforced limits rubs me the wrong way. Obviously, there are things you cannot do on a netbook. But I shouldn't be artificially restricted from doing them by the manufacturer.

considering how everything they make is expensive, i cant imagine them making a $300-$400 netbook.

I'd bet they'll inflate the price to that of a lower end traditional notebook for around $600-$700.

I'd enjoy a netbook with the build quality of an iPhone.

If Apple is going to limit the software run on thier netbook, what's the reason to buy it? So if you want to run something, buy it? People can just buy less expensive PC netbook and run whatever they want.

If that's the case, it could be a complete failure.

well after thinking about this a little more, it might just end up similar to a large iphone. might include the os that the iphone uses, with a larger screen and a dedicated keyboard. thats the only way i can see it coming in at $400 like the rest of the pc netbooks. then again, if someone really wanted to run mac os now and not wait for apple they could just do this http://uneasysilence.com/archive/2008/10/13519/

I'm sure the Apple netbook will look really good, but I'd imagine it would be $600 - 800. Not so sure about the "locked down" app delivery, it does not seem plausible that Apple would splinter their development community three-ways (OS X, iPhone, Netbook).

The whole point of a netbook is to have a cheap "device" you can knock around and surf the web on. The last portable masterpiece Apple announced (the Macbook Air) was a total flop because if its price.

so it is basically a big ipod with a keyboard?

WHat does it matter? They are going to sell it. At this point, Apple could sell a log of sh** and still make millions off of it. Any company would kill for that loyalty.

I am unhappy that APPLE took the same route as every other dick and harry out there. If they would release a netbook with the same specs as the last iBook G4 with a 10inch screen and a bit better processer i would have bought it.

Apple never released a netbook. They released a really thin, underported laptop in the Air (I know where they were going with only giving it 1 USB port, as well as Mini Displayport and audio out, but I still wouldn't get it except to brag that I can blow that kind of cash on frivolous things).

If Apple were to release a netbook there is some thinking that it might actually run the iPhone OS with some custom apps.
