Apple Store and Stupid Shipping Policies

So I ordered a copy of VMware and one of the NVidia GT120 upgrade cards (my pro came with one of the ATI2600 cards) from my education store, so I could get my discount. All seemed fine.

Turns out the items would ship from two different locations (no problem) via two different shipping methods (also no problem). Except that Apple put a "Signature Required" on the VMWare that shipped via UPS, meaning someone has to be there to physically sign for a $40 piece of software. Meanwhile they sent me the $140 video card via USPS where they'll just leave it on my doorstep.

So, signature required for cheap software but not for more expensive hardware?? WTF?

That's odd. Call Apple, they might be able to contact UPS to waive the signature requirement.

nah, already got it handled. I had UPS re-route the package to my office and its already been delivered. It didn't make sense the way they did it.

I had this happen once with newegg. I ordered all the parts to build a new computer, a very high end computer about 1500.00 in totoal.

The parts arrive and UPS leaves them on my front door. Everything is there except the computer case (40.00). They shipped the case signature required. Really pissed me off.

I hate the USPS for delivery. If it's a small item, they usually just leave it in my box, which is locked, so that's fine.. but if it's a big item.. you have to be home, and if you aren't then they take it back to the Post Office and won't try to deliver it again. They make me go and pick it up.. ugh, so annoying.

Apple has their order processing done overseas, I found this out after a fiasco where they shipped an item to:

Pliablemoose
Fresno, CA 93720

With no street address, it freaking took forever to straighten that out, and I ended up with 2 free iPhones out of the deal :)

Well it showed up today via USPS and no signature required. If I hadn't had been home, he was going to leave it on the front steps (I asked).

Nice!

When I ordered the iPod Touch when it was first announced, I did not have any choice as to carrier, and I could not re-route either.

That pissed me off. I actually had to sneak away from work, and have my co-workers cover for me should the boss come to visit, so I could go home, and wait for Fed-Ex to deliver it.

AND.....the Fed-Ex depot where the package was routed through, is actually on the same street as my work. I could have walked to pick it up and saved Fed-Ex the trip 30km north to my home, but that was not allowed:roll:
