Apple Servicing Question for Ipods

First some backfround on my ipod. Windows see's it, Itunes doesn't, iPod Updater will after a couple hours of initializing then failing to restore ipod with error message "Can not read drive" after like 90 %. So I am assuming the ipod needs to be serviced. Now my real question is this:

I got this in November '05 can I take it into the apple store near me that has a service center to get it replaced or repaired or do I have to buy the Apple Care to do that? Leaving me to have to mail it in if I didn't buy the apple care. Also before this happend the play buton was very finicky in choosing when to work.

Someone please get back to me asap.

thank in advanced!

Your iPod comes with single incident telephone support for the first 90 days and a one-year limited warranty. Purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPod to extend your service and support to two full years. Only the AppleCare Protection Plan provides you with direct telephone support from Apple technical experts and the assurance that repairs will be handled by Apple-certified technicians using genuine Apple parts. For more information, visit Apple support or call 800-823-2775.

You can try taking the iPod to an Apple store near you. If not, you'll have to call them up and send the iPod in for repair.

i would get it

as far as i know it covers the battery, hard drive, screen, and buttons (the things most likely to break)

*EDIT*

if you bought it in nov 2005 the original 1 year warranty should last till nov of 2006

apply care extend the parts and labor warranty from 1 year to 2 years i believe
and extends the original 90 days of phone support to 2 years

i would take it to an apple shop and see if you can have it fixed under the warranty

you have 1 year of warranty from the date of purchase. 90day phone support, 1 year tech support. YOu can bring the iPod in to any Apple Store and they will be able to help you. Also before you go in, go to http://www.apple.com/retail and RSVP for an appointment for the IPOD so you dont have to wait 2-3 hours when u get there. 🙂

You can RSVP the same-day appointments for free.

places like compusa though don't service them, they send them out, and if its not under warranty there is nothing they can do

Being only like 4 months old I don't want to have to pay for Apple Care to get better service. I had apple care on an old 3rd gen 10gb ipod and after bringing it in for repair to the apple store the next day they called me with a clean refurbished one the next day.

I got the Circuit City 2-year protection plan on my iPod. I do not trust Apple and yet I bought a product made by them.
