I just got back from a 4 hours Mac OS 10.2 presentation, and the Itune/Imovie got my vote for some of the most slickest software out there that came bundle with the OS.

The reps claim that Jaguar is much better than Windows & Linux?.Personally in someway it is better but in the other it is not.

The funny thing that I saw was that they claim that OS 10 will never crash unlike Windows, and how the user will never need to be a UNIX geek. Terminal is for the geek & it is a not needed function, but at the end of the presentation the new boasted Messenger communication crashes and had to be kill under terminal to get it going again.

I hung around after the presentation & ask the Apple reps what is the future of the OS & upgrade ability for the hardware. They got really fluster & was telling me that MS have no security that cost money & it is not a sure thing that the OS will be around for long, while Apple is a company that have 25 years of dependable history. They got really mad and call me a Windows serf that keeps spending money on a buggy & insecure OS. I mentioned to them that OS 9 didn?t have firewall built in just like every other Windows OS except for XP, and 10.2 cost money for the upgrade, and also mentioned that even UNIX & Linux have exploits.

To conclude my day, I told the rotten Apple reps them that ?Enron also had a history?, and they all turned beet red & grumpily walk a way from me.

there wouldn't be nearly so much debate between the two camps if Apple users just said "Hey we like Macs, we like OSX 10, and we think Macs are better suited for us". Instead, nearly every Mac user I've talked to and every high level rep at Apple says "Windows sux, its bloated, its got crappy security, Macs are faster than PC's, etc." Why does there have to always be the comparison to PC's with Apple, they would generate a lot more positive feedback from the PC camps if they stopped trying to dis MS and Windows and started displaying what their OS's could do in their commericals, and not what Windows cant do.

Of course he is going to claim this. Would MS admit in a presentation (why are you going to a four hour presentation anyways?) that linux is better?

You are saying that they literally claimed it would NEVER crash? Ever?

I hung around after the presentation & ask the Apple reps what is the future of the OS & upgrade ability for the hardware.

What do you mean? Upgrade ability for the hardware?

They got really fluster & was telling me that MS have no security that cost money & it is not a sure thing that the OS will be around for long

Say what? No offense intended, but are you sure there wasn't possible some language barriers or misinterpretations?

I dont understand why you would bring up OS 9 at a OS X presentation.

When will people learn that any sort of discussion to the tune of Windows vs Mac is absolutely pointless? Of all the people, folks at Apple should know that apples can only be compared to........(drum roll, please!)....apples! Take that to the bank, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates!

This is out of character for any sales representative for any company unless you were being deliberately confrontational.

Bwahahaha!

I used to use a Mac exclusively for about the last 16 years. While OS X has many great aspects, I find that it seriously compromises the Mac philosophy for unix core. And for penty of other reasons, I'm not a fan Apple these days.

I found OS X pretty easy to use.... in fact I would be running it now if you didn't have to use obscenely overpriced obsolete hardware to use it ;). It is definitely the best looking OS... I like having the unix in the background (like linux) and not using XFree

The boss & I were invited to the presentation by an associated. The associate is one of the speakers & he is also a good friend of my employer.
The funny thing is that the Boss friend was the only logical rep at the presentation. And, he is much younger than the rest of the reps & started out from a Unix & Linux background.

What do you mean? Upgrade ability for the hardware?
I meant, what is Mac going to do because Motorola is not going to support the PPC.

Say what? No offense intended, but are you sure there wasn't possible some language barriers or misinterpretations?
The Apple reps was saying that Windows is not secure & cost more money due to MS licensing scheme.

I dont understand why you would bring up OS 9 at a OS X presentation.
I was making a comparison when they told me that OSX is much better than Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, Win2k, XP on usability & Security. And, personally I found that System 7 & 9 was pretty good for there time.

They didn?t call me a serf to my face but it might as well be in what they were implying in.

I concur.

The reps also told me that there are 3500 native apps for OSX & 80 000 legacy Mac/Apple software, therefore you don?t need to worry about support or ever need to have other main stream products. They also said that Linux doesn?t run any mainstream software, and is only for the geeks to play around with the OS & surfing the net. And they also mention how crappy Walmart & Lindows is (didn't mention Mandrake).
My rebuttal is that choices is good, and Linux may not have support for MS nor Adobe products, but Linux is great with Apache, OpenOffice/StarOffice, Oracle 7i/8i/9i, DB2 & many other great networking & security software. Too bad that I didn't twist the knife by saying that the European, South American & Asian are all idiots to support crappy Linux.

Its already out for Windows... you can order the windows version (MusicMatch is the software) from apple.com. Also you can use the Mac version w/ xplay...
