"Apple has no desire or plan to sell or support Windows, but many customers have expressed their interest to run Windows on Apple's superior hardware now that we use Intel processors," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.

"superior" hardware? It all comes from china, japan, and malaysia anyway

No AMD is going to be selling $40 processors again like Tbred days to teen age boys on allowance when Conroe comes out and smacks them down. Apple saw writing on wall and I'm sure had confidential performance testing of thier own before making decision.. As we saw with AT's conroe preveiw they made the right one.

No, their hardware is INFERIOR, they're bose because they overcharge compared to the competition for not doing the same stuff but with lower quality... ala other speaker companies like Klipsch or sennheiser..

Not true. Until very recently Apple used to be all SCSI. You never got a SCSI in a standard PC. Apples still uses best PC HW in thier boxes now they have totally converted to a PC. Japanese high quality caps on thier motherboards with 6 or 8 phase power - Crucial mem and seagte HDD's.. Cases are high end Al instead of plastic. Expensive HQ S-IPS in thier monitors. Really I think you've never taken one apart coming to this conclusion. Apple is expensive but it's not low quality by any measure.

I can put together a PC of similar quality or maybe even better for less than apple charges, and one more powerful too. I don't buy cheap stuff, I want it to last.

And if a reason to get a mac is because of looks... What a bad reason to fork over all the extra cash. I actually had someone tell me the reason why she got a mac over a pc is because it was "cute" I'll never understand girls I guess. To me they are the ugliest computers. Some may think differently but that is my opinion for whatever its worth (which probably isn't much)

The real question is (since we were already able to dualboot Windows) when will ATI release drivers compatible with the X1600 in the MBP?

Get a 2nd built in mouse button and then I'm in. I don't want to carry a mouse about...

I don't know if you ever seen and touched a Powerbook but they are heads and tails above any PC laptop. Go into frys they have powerbooks and everything else on display you'll see.

i think the thinkpad line is close to the quality of the apple line. but other than that.

i do like the new Compaq/HP line of laptops tho.

Ill agree on the thinkpads, but ive seen too many people burned by compaq/HP in the last few years.

Not at all, life's too short t be surrounded by ugly things. It's a feng shui thing.

I have no problem dropping $300 on a nice PC case I like to be sorrounded by beauty makes me happy.

If you don't like the looks don't buy it.

Find me a laptop, or any PC for that matter, that can run the latest OS X natively....oh wait, that's right, THERE AREN'T ANY!

This update isn't for people who want to run only Windows. This is for people who've chosen a superior OS but also want to run the occasional Windows-only game/application. If you're running out to buy a MBP just to run Windows, you're a moron.

Right, I too dropped some extra for a nice looking case, tho I seriously doubt I'd spend $300 for one, that is getting a bit extreme. $100-ish for me. But for that to be the only reason to buy a mac, like that one person I mentioned, well, there is more to it than that. Personally I think they're ugly, but to each his own :)

Personally I think this is genius. After all there is a pretty large following of people willing to hack their boxes to run XP. But with official support of such an effort is friggin Genius! I can see lots of techies who were hesitent to switch to buy into Apple big time. Heck Apple could perhaps double their modest 3-4% marketshare with this move alone. I know tons of people who like Macs but don't want to give up specific Windows apps.

Of course I see this being the only way Apple will support OSX on x86. Apple is very much into their design etc they would never give out their OS to Dell to put it on trashy boxes. But heck I don't mind. I already own a G4 Mac Mini to do some dev work on and I can now say I am almost certainly going to be buying a Intel iBook. Or an intel Mac of some sort in the near future.

The only gripe I have is no two button touchpad! Come on Apple you sell a 2 button mouse after all.

Interesting...does this mean that you don't even need a bootloader? Details are slim in that link on what it actually does.

As far as I know, OS X still doesn't do hibernation, but I hope I'm wrong, does anyone know for sure?
