Of course there would, Apple caved to AT&T and removed a previously approved app from the app store for no good reason. If they're willing to bow to AT&T on this then what else are they willing to do for them?

I understand everyone's point, but it's Apple's App store .. they can do whatever they want. regardless of who asked them to do what. The way I see this, it's another case of "I want what I can't have" ... as soon as Apple pulled this app everyone wanted it.

I won't argue that the reason was somewhat iffy .. being, as it's been discussed, there are lots of apps that can do a portion of what GV can in one manner or another. Maybe Apple/ATT has a hard on for Google. I don't know. Do I agree with the decision? No, absolutely not. But the fact is it encroaches on ATT's bottom line. It doesn't matter if there are other apps out there that haven't been pulled. Just because someone else got a way with having an app out there that does the same thing, doesn't mean google will. Life's not fair.

I had a Motorola Q and Bluetooth file transfer was disabled thanks to them. I not talking phone to phone, I mean I couldn't xfer files to my my phone thru bluetooth. They might have changed as this was years ago. But every Verizon phone I had was crippled badly.

All of mine before my Storm were too, although it wasn't difficult to reenable most of the features with a seem editor.

Sure, Apple can do whatever they want with their products and their store. But when they do something people don't like then those people should speak up and let Apple know.

Just because someone else got a way with having an app out there that does the same thing, doesn't mean google will. Life's not fair.

And just because those apps haven't been removed yet or Apple hasn't released a firmware update that blacklists GV apps doesn't mean they won't later on either. Which is why people who actually buy their stuff need to let them know that they don't like what they're doing.

I don't think it's a matter of wanting what they can't have. GV just started releasing invites and people are starting to use it. No one wanted a GV app 6 months ago because no one (well, almost no one) had an account.

This.

Thankfully for some (me), we requested an account mere months after Grand Central stopped giving them out, so we got invites before Apple (AT&T) pulled the app.

Don't you think you're being a little overdramatic?

To the best of my knowledge it was never confirmed that Apple has a killswitch that they can implement. I am not saying that there couldn't be one, just that it has never been confirmed, and certainly has never been used. Anytime in the past that Apple has pulled something from the App store, they have never then disabled it on people's devices. The closest thing to that that happened was with the 3.0 Beta when people could not redownload apps onto another iphone using their account. That eventually proved to be a glitch and that problem no longer exists.

I agree that this situation sucks, and to me what is likely (not with this app but with the plenty of others that have not passed the review process) is that Apple wasn't completely prepared for just how popular the App Store would be, and the process that would work with reviewing dozens of apps each week doesn't work when reviewing hundreds.

At the end of the day, I am glad that an approval process is in place, just not necessarily happy with what we have. I would rather have the App Store than what I used to have to go through with my old pocket PC, where I had to navigate dozens of poorly constructed websites, that could be quite shady, in order to get a handful of things that might, or might not, completely fubar my PDA.

Never been confirmed?

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has confirmed that the iPhone 3G has a kill switch that can remotely remove software from the devices.
Jobs told The Wall Street Journal that Apple needs the capability in case it inadvertently allows a malicious program -- such as an application that steals user's personal data -- to be distributed to iPhones through its App Store.

"Hopefully we never have to pull that lever, but we would be irresponsible not to have a lever like that to pull," Jobs said.

No, I don't trust companies and when they do something stupid a big deal should be made so that they don't do it, or worse, again. And that should go double for companies that are such huge control freaks like Apple.

At the end of the day, I am glad that an approval process is in place, just not necessarily happy with what we have.

No doubt an approval process should be used, but none of the requirements should include "Does AT&T think this is ok?".

Google should block iPhones from accessing their services and see if that changes Apple's tune. After all, Apple is their competitor now that they have the Android phones.

LOL, they should filter all Apple related searches from their results. That would be hilarious!

Or re-direct them (and all other searches from the iPhone OS) to goatse.

And also completely trash any of Google's arguments for net neutrality.

LOL at the thought of Apple complaining about net neutrality.

While I'd LOVE to have a official Google Voice App for my iPhone the website really does everything you'd need from your iPhone at least.
