Yeah I know they say that, but I've never seen the need. *yet*

I think the same about Windows. I cannot comprehend why the operating system is made the way it is.

So since you say you don't see the need doesn't make it any less needed. It's like someone saying they don't see the need to back-up their computers.

Wow, you're such a child.
That may be true, but at least I know I'm not the simpleton that is easily attracted to shinny lights and baubles. Touche my friend.

I think you might have forgotten to address the rest of my rebuttal, but I don't think that's important to you.

Another thing to the Windows guys, why are you guys keep pointing out that you can get MORE for your money? Some people PREFER to pay more to get less. Why do you have to keep on insisting your values on other?

Perhaps saying I don't see the need was unfair, what I mean is I've never been in a situation where I feel I should have had antivirus software on my Mac, I have been in the situation where I feel I should have backed up.

I have a few friends who are Apple diehards. It gets annoying as hell. Actually I'm not sure which is more fucking annoying, the Apple diehards or the Windows diehards.

But just like I tell them every day they ask how I like my MBP, the day that someone makes a windows laptop with a touchpad as good as the one on the MBP will be the day I buy one.

They respond rather smugly because, in their world, no one will ever make a touchpad better than Steve.

Windows diehards people respond with shit like, 'is that a tampad'?

Which is worse? Neither, both sides are equally pathetic.

I prefer my MacBookAir without a disk drive... I don't need one anymore. I've got Windows on one machine in my house, and thats just for games.
That really cute girl you like comes over to "watch a movie" with you. She reaches into her purse and pulls out a pirated .avi copy of the famous porn movie Pirates. How do you play it?

I've never seen a Mac ad where they advertise the lack of a CLI...?
IBM computers have always been DOS/OS2 based. Even when the computer had Windows on it, you had to know DOS commands if you wanted to do certain things. Apple computers have been GUI-based that whole time because GUI is easier (if you don't know the commands) and it's nicer to look at. People who didn't want to fuck around with instruction manuals and learn DOS commands could always buy a Macintosh where everything was graphical and generally easier to use.

The cool thing about windows is compatibility and gaming, the cool things about OSX is reliability and control.

Windows is fine if you just want the basic software and to run it on anything, and to play games.

OSX is for people who don't find a GUI enough, but want the reliability that you don't get from Linux.

Two different consumer sets. I need a computer with a valid command line interface, excellent reliability and great hardware. But if you need a machine that is cheap, runs any hardware, you don't need a CLI and you want to play games. Then you want a PC.

Reliability that you don't get from Linux? You whacked your head really hard this morning when you were getting out of bed didn't you? OS X is nowhere even close to as reliable as a solid Linux distro such as ARCH, Suse or Debian.

I agree. Windows could definitely become better than OSX. Just hasn't happened yet.

More likely a linux distro will become better.

WTF is there to rebut? You didn't even bother answering my original question. Instead of offering up a comparable windows machine you attacked what it is I prefer in a laptop which is really not the point of this conversation. And btw, if you're going to call someone a 'simpleton' you may want to run a spell check on the sentence.

When I said reliability I don't mean just software I mean the combination of software and hardware, debian rocks my world on a daily basis, but when it comes to running it on a laptop it can be a pain in the arse. But OSX will run perfectly on a MacBook for example, every time. Because the software is written for the hardware it runs a lot better OTB. Debian will take some coaxing to run the same.

Just ignore him, a while ago he made the argument that unless something is of benefit to mankind it is just a shinny bauble and is a bad purchase. He doesn't know what he's saying, stick him on your ignore list, like me.

Good idea. Off topic, I'm on your side of the world on business this week. Great country, freaking cold though but I'm finally adjusted. Did a lot of sight seeing over the weekend in Scotland and Northern England. There were some amazing sites. :)

ROFL. My primary linux machine, which is a Thinkpad laptop BTW, hasn't been rebooted in nearly a year. Unreliable my ass.

1) I don't stick it in my Laptop, and never have.
2) DOS is OLD! And crap.

Why in the world would you want to use a mouse every time you use your notebook?
Because touchpads suck. This isn't an Apple vs PC statement. Touchpads just suck. I was an early adopter of touchpads way back in the mid '90s when they were only available as third party addons and they sucked then. They still suck. I was trying to find a solution to carpal tunnel and so tried a touchpad. They are worse than mice.

Yeah I'm the same with all my linux servers. Just wouldn't use them as a Desktop OS. OS X Is far more polished and the reliability of a Mac is formidable.

I disagree, I might buy a magic touchpad and ditch the mouse all together.

I agree, that's why I have a MBP and a PC desktop/slightly older notebook. Hrmm I also have a PS3 and 360. And an old HD-DVD player. The horror.
