I just think it's funny that when people have these conversations they want to automatically dismiss the trackpad as if it is meaningless even though there really is no comparison. (See post #22) Believe me, I wish there were.

I think I must be the only person on the planet that hates the clicky touchpad.

Clicky touch surfaces sucked on the BB storm and the suck on laptops as well.

Doesnt Windows "just work" too? I don't recall doing anything special to make it "work"

Anti Virus, Anti Spy Ware/ Adware, Replace the Web Browser, download drivers etc etc.

Windows is fine, unless you want something more.

How much time have you spent with the MBP touchpad? I rarely 'click' anything.

safari is a piece of crap compared to other browsers out there, IE8 isn't much worse and IE9 is actually quite nice.

Macs are fine, their user base are mostly people that have no idea what to do on a computer, have no freaking common sense, needs instruction to wipe off the drools every two minutes, walk around with helmets on, and generally screws around on youtwitface instead of work. If you don't belong to that category, Macs are not for you.

Then there are the "support techs" who love Macs, simply because they don't want to do the work they're paid to do. They generally wants to sit on their asses, FSM forbid if a user do something stupid and requires them to "work", that concept is lost.

Again, if you just want a shinny bauble that "works" (for you), because if given anything else just a bit more complicated and requires a bit more intelligence to operate you'll screw it up, then Macs are perfect for you. There are no need to argue about any of this.

I don't know why you Windows guys need to argue against Mac users. So what if you can do more, and be more compatible, and get more for your money, exhibit more common sense? Quit all that nonsense. In an enterprise where trillion dollars are at stake, sure your fancy Windows machines and servers and infrastructure with the plethora of business and security applications to keep you running, but what if some unique individual on floor 8 cube # 342 wants to dick around on youtwitface.com, or an executive wants to look important in a bar with an iPad? What then? Your Windows are no match. Not to mention the countless of others welfare recipients that need to show that they know computing by toting a Mac around (or iStuff), and that makes them richer, because we all know possession of any Apple products automatically place the owner into a higher echelon. An echelon of wealth, power and informed elite socialites.

Windows guys, just give up. You don't stand a chance.

The cool thing about windows is compatibility and gaming, the cool things about OSX is reliability and control.

Windows is fine if you just want the basic software and to run it on anything, and to play games.

OSX is for people who don't find a GUI enough, but want the reliability that you don't get from Linux.

Two different consumer sets. I need a computer with a valid command line interface, excellent reliability and great hardware. But if you need a machine that is cheap, runs any hardware, you don't need a CLI and you want to play games. Then you want a PC.

Point me to the windows laptop with a touch pad as good as the mbp, a backlit keyboard, etc. so I can buy it and do an actual apples to apples (ha?) comparison. Thanks.

Why do you need a backlit keyboard? Its got a great big glowy screen just above it.

If you don't need to fuck with it, it means you are doing it wrong. Apple makes its customers feel special by requiring them to buy an external DVD drive so they can install Windows and actually use the computer for something.

I've never had the need to use a touchpad, is that the same as a tampad? Backlit keyboard? Ever heard of a light switch? There are plenty of keyboards that have shinny lights underneath their keys; there are laptops that have the same as well.

But, since you're naturally attracted to shinny things, as illustrated in your post, I understand.

For most of the work you do IF you really need a CLI, putty works pretty well. There are plenty of stable *nix flavor that will give you the same sort of shiny UI, AND shells, and they run on compatible hardware that you can find anywhere. Imagine that?!!

You really wrote this? You realize you just turned 27 years of Mac marketing on its head?

I prefer my MacBookAir without a disk drive... I don't need one anymore. I've got Windows on one machine in my house, and thats just for games.

I've never seen a Mac ad where they advertise the lack of a CLI...? If windows had a valid GUI I'd use it, if Linux had a good enough distro to run on my hardware I would use it, but why would I bother with all that when I can just use OSX that does both.

I guess people seem to forget that Apple says that you need Anti-Virus on your Macs now. They're getting more popular so they're getting targeted more.

Also I hate OSX. I'm sure I've used it more than most people but I still hate it. Lots of things make me think why the hell they did it that way.

Yeah I know they say that, but I've never seen the need. *yet*

I think the same about Windows. I cannot comprehend why the operating system is made the way it is.
