Right. For that matter, everyone at the Starbucks seems to be using HP-Compaq notebooks. Not a Dell or Sony among them, go figure. No PowerBooks either.
They're reasonable, if underpowered, machines for non-power use, especially at the top end.
If looks and usability are paramount, Apple laptops are top-notch. If you care about (either CPU or extreme battery) power, you're really out of luck with current Apple mobile offerings.

Plenty of people get along fine with G4 systems...they seriously suck for gaming, but the OS holds up well under a load. For general business or internet apps, they're just dandy, and they're okay for graphics work due to heavy optimization.
