Apple Policy- Returning Ipods

Juice Box

Diamond Member
Anyone know the policy with apple if your Ipods HDD begins clicking? Like, it wont play songs because it cant find them as a result of the clicks. A good slam on the table fixes it temporarily, but it comes back often. Will they just give me a new one if I bring it in?

Sounds like a hard drive failure... They better take it back if it's still under warranty!

I assume its a year warranty.... and I bought it over Xmas

The hard drives aren't hard to replace. If its under warranty take it in immediately, or you can always do it yourself.

And I wouldn't tell them that you hit it against the table.

Not unless they're Rio USA support! (they actually told some people to smack their Karmas on a table to fix them)

Easiest way is to take it to the Apple store and show the problem to the support Nazi.

Im not about to replace it myself..... Im just saying, like, it IS under warranty still for sure, but if I tell them that the prob can be fixed by hitting the unit hard, is that ok?

Why explain the solution? It's not operating to spec, get it replaced.

No.

hahahahahaha That works sometimes, I do it myself to keep a drive going for a bit longer, but that might give them the chance to tell you to get lost.

well, it is working now.... but i know it will give out again..... So, if I send them a working unit, will they still replace it? I know itll break again, its been happening a lot

ok, well I requested apple service and it looks like it should go through. Im hoping they will just give me a whole new unit rather than fixing this one. (its kinda scratched 🙁 Ill take better care of the new one 😀)

If you explain that slamming it fixes it, they'll say that slamming broke it and make you pay to fix it.

Why on earth would you want to tell them something like that in the first place? 😕

well, I said that shaking it will temp. fix it, but my explination of the prob was too long, and I think it cut that part out anyways..... but will they replace it if they get it and its in working order?

Depends on how old, mine did that 8 days after warranty and they turned their noses up at me.
Me too :disgust: Like 10 days past the one-year warranty. Bastards.

Just tell them "the hard drive clicks and it won't play music". Leave it at that. Why would you tell them anything more?

well, after my explination got cut off, thats basically all it says now. But, if they get it, and it works, will they replace it? I mean, it does happen often

Well who knows what the outcome will be, but I can tell you straight up if you told them you hit it against a table, they will blame you, no matter if the ipod is acting up and that temporarily fixes it... they'll still blame you!

I did not tell them that. I simply said "the HDD was clicking, so i picked it up and kinda shook it, and it began working, but the problem has returned many times" But like i said, that got cut off, so they wont even see that

This is truly technical troubleshooting at its best. Please try reading your iPod manual next time and look under the Troubleshooting section, or either go to Apple's web site next time.

Apple used to tell their customers to smack the side of their monitors pretty damn hard to fix vertical lines that appeared on their Studio Displays.

Run the HDD test from the diagnostics menu. If it fails they have to replace it.

ok, I talked to the tech support dude, and he said that they will prolly replace it if I just put a note in there saying what the deal is, cause according to Murphys law, it will work fine when they get it. Hopefully this will all work out, and Ill get a new unit!
