It was added without notice or consent. If you're saying that in order to use automatic downloads that people should be constantly monitoring their itunes library to see if Apple has decided to add things to it doesn't make a lot of sense.

They should have simply made the album free on itunes instead of actively pushing it onto people.

It was added with notice. People noticed it in their library haha.

Was funny people complaining about it when I heard Apple paid U2 like 100 million to do it I guess.

No Smart Phone at all here I guess.

Where do I join the Apple or Android party. I need a brain defect so I can share my opinions. This is good and that is bad because I'm important. You fuckers are amazing.

52,500 posts later, it doesn't seem you have any problem sharing your opinion. :)

Glad they finally eradicated this dreaded U2 Songs of Innocence virus.

For the record, I do not own a 'smart' phone or possess the unique privilege of paying for the NSA and Apple to spy on me. However, this is the most amusing and ironic tech story in quite a while. lol

People are "outraged" over an album. Outraged. We've totally devalued words.

I'm outraged at having to watch all those douchy U2/Apple commercials now.

Suppose it's better than the commercials with the symphony and the "hey we have noise canceling mikes, so magical, so innovative, ooooooohhhhhh"

I was mildly irritated at seeing an album that you'd have to pay me more than my hourly rate at work to listen to sitting there on my phone for an unknown reason, but certainly not outraged

They authorized it by enabling automatic downloads.

Sigh. Read the thread, this has been covered already. They authorized the automatic download of things they add to their itunes, they didn't authorize (or even know that there was the possibility of) apple adding an entire album to their itunes account.

Sorry, that's just incorrect. Read the terms of service. The album is no different than an update to an app or something else. If automatic updates have been accepted then its getting downloaded.

Apple users bitching about this is pure comedy gold, however.

Am I An Outlier, Or Are Apple Products No Longer Easy To Use?
... I know that Andriod and Windows are hard to use too. And no, I’m certainly not going to install Linux.

My point is simply this: This stuff is too complicated. There has to be a better way. And while it used to be that Apple was the brand which uncomplicated computing, for me, anyway, that’s simply no longer true. Does anyone out there have similar experiences, or am I really an outlier?

Steve's dead. And now, Apple expects users to be responsible for their own device configuration?

The dream is over.

What can I say?
The dream is over.

The terms of service you quoted before didn't say that, was there something else in them that did?

Says right in there what happens when you select automatic downloads. This fits that description.

We already covered this, nowhere does it say that Apple may "purchase" things for you and place them in your itunes account.

Again, Apple users complaining about choices Apple made for them is incredibly hilarious. :D

Apple can push anything to the user, it even says so in the terms of service, once they select automatic downloads. Apple can place an update, for example, in your itunes and it will automatically be downloaded. This is no different. By selecting automatic downloads, you are allowing Apple to download things automatically for you. Not sure why that is so difficult to grasp.

I'm simply asking for anywhere in the terms of service that it says that. That shouldn't be too difficult a request to fulfill.

It says items purchased through itunes, but I see nowhere in the terms of service that says Apple may purchase items in itunes for you. Can you quote the language?

For each Associated Device, you may specify which type of iTunes Auto-Delivery Content, if any, may be auto-downloaded to it. On an Associated Device that is capable of receiving push notifications (“Push-Enabled”), including iOS Devices, the iTunes Auto-Delivery Content will auto-download to that Associated Device when it has an Internet connection; on an Associated Device that is not Push-Enabled, iTunes Auto-Delivery Content will automatically appear in the download queue and you may manually initiate the download within iTunes.

Seems pretty self explanatory. If you've selected content to be auto downloaded, it will be auto downloaded. That means anything that Apple wants to consider content as well, such as app updates, or in this case a free album.

Perhaps a picture will work better?

Also, this whole discussion is incredibly stupid given the "Use Cellular Data" setting.

What if it was a Justin Bieber album? Hmmm?

Bet you'd be outraged then. :colbert:

:D

Did anyone read the terms of service that I linked? Anyone?

Apple covered this.

OBJECTIONABLE MATERIAL

You understand that by using the iTunes Service, you may encounter material that you may deem to be offensive, indecent, or objectionable, and that such content may or may not be identified as having explicit material. Nevertheless, you agree to use the iTunes Service at your sole risk and Apple shall have no liability to you for material that may be found to be offensive, indecent, or objectionable. iTunes Product types and descriptions are provided for convenience, and you agree that Apple does not guarantee their accuracy.

Still not covering it, sorry. All I'm looking for is a statement that Apple can force you to acquire items in your itunes account without your consent. Should I just keep asking?

I'm pretty certain Apple can put anything into, and remove anything from, their own servers.

Whether you think that that's acceptable is a different issue.
