Immediately takes half of their production capability. Estimates are Apple needs 57 million iPad displays this year.

Japanese suppliers, such as Hitachi and Toshiba, are incapable to meeting the demand of Apple, due to effect of the massive earthquake on their capacities, as well as their smaller capacities.

The demand will give a strong boost to AUO in both sales and profits, since price offered by Apple is three to four times the going price for displays of the same size.

o_O

Assuming that they manage to sell 85% of their stock, that Android tablet sales don't fall off, and that RIM and HP are even somewhat successful, there are going to be a lot of tablets sold this year.

Awww... I was hoping this thread was gonna be about Apple ordering tons of 4 inch screens.

If the iPhone 5 has that same tiny damn screen after I have waited months for it I wil be so pissed. My friend who is an Apple fanatic said that it will probably be the smaller screen which means I have to make this old 3GS last ANOTHER year (or I might just switch 100% to Android).

I'd take a larger screen on the existing iPhone, or a slightly larger iPhone. There's a fair bit of empty space on the front of an iPhone... push the speaker hole higher and you could get 0.5" more screen... widen the phone slightly and you could have the same resolution screen in a larger size with only a minor increase in handset size.

As far as 58 million iPad's - that seems improbably high. Given increased competition, they are going to have to lower the price considerably to move that many.

Most of the rumors suggested that the screen would be larger, but the phone would stay the same size.

People always think bigger screen mean insanely bigger phone but it doesn't. Many larger screen phones are barely any bigger than an iPhone 4.

Think inverse. The iPhone 4 is barely smaller than many bigger phones. Large bezels are likely the culprit.

this, the iphone is the same size as most 4 and some 4.3 inch android based phones in terms of length and width

its just thinner

It's not even that much thinner though. The Iphone has so much wasted space. If anyone doesn't realize that, they should go to any store that sells phones. Pick up an Atrix or some other 4" screen phone -- they are pretty small. And as far as thickness, other than sliders, most are pretty damn thin.

It could be a 4-4.3 inch screen that kept the same res and it would be a huge improvement to me.

Yea, with Apple's huge cash reserves they can afford to lock up a massive share of any manufacturer's goods. A little unfair to competitors sure, but since when is that a major concern to a company?

Huh? That is competition.
If another company wants to come along and out bid Apple, they are more than free to do that.
Its called supply and demand.

Supply is low and demand is high so what does that do to price?

I just meant in the sense that they were able to pay way over market price for the panels.

It was a little quip, I wasn't attacking Apple, I was just saying that from a schoolyard perspective of fairness, what Apple did wasn't.
