Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express only exist on the Mac. If she goes PC she'll have to learn a new program. There's Avid stuff for $$$$, or else Premiere (which supposedly isn't as good as FCP). Vegas Video too?

As for the install, the machine should come with OS X.3 Panther installed. You just do a Software Update to get the latest updates. Everything is done automagically. (Sort of like Windows Update.) If you have to a fresh install (eg. used machine), it's actually much easier and much faster than for Windows.

For software it's easy too. For stuff like Office, you simply drag the directory to the hard drive then you're done. Seriously. I wish Office on Windows was this easy to install.

For other software with installers it's just a standard installer like any Windows program.
