Apple Music on iOS 10

Compared to Spotify Apple Music lacks some very essentials features.

  • There is no real remote control. You have to use the very limited Apple Remote app, which also means you have to leave the Apple Music app and switch to another app. In Spotify you can remote control your playing right within the Spotify app.
  • If you stop listening your music on the iPhone, you can switch to the Desktop app of Spotify and can continue where you stopped on the iPhone. This doesn't work with Apple Music.

Because of the missing of these 2 essentials features i quitted my Apple Music subscription and switched back to Spotify.

Is there any advantage in iOS 10 (and maybe the new iTunes version?)

The second feature sounds nice...but I am not understanding what you mean about not having a remote to control your music. The app itself has controls...so why would I go to the remote app?

With Spotify, if I am listening over the speakers connected to my desktop, I can control the playback from within the Spotify app on my phone. Useful if I'm full screen gaming, or on my couch.

Conversely with iTunes/Apple Music/AirPlay, I can pipe music through my desktop's speakers, my receiver (via AppleTV), the outdoor speakers (via my roommates receiver/AppleTV), and another pair (via the Airport Express). Good for house parties. This has to be started from a computer though, last I looked at remote.app on iOS, you couldn't multi-channel AirPlay. Once the multi-channel is set up, you can control from the iDevice though.

You would think bullet point 2 would be a feature of continuity...I really enjoy that feature from Spotify!

Gotcha...I thought you were referring to listening through your phone.

It works for some things, but not music. iBooks syncs your place, I want to say iTunes purchased videos will do it as well.

I use Apple Music through Sonos speakers, so this is something of a moot point for me (just fire up the Sonos app!). However, I do see your point. Haven't heard of iOS 10 tackling this specifically.
