Apple 'may' be working on instant on computer says Motley Fool

well why not just keep the computer on in a very low power mode like hibernation? also, i highly doubt Apple will get their OS to load instantly, they are probably doing something like what Microsoft is claiming Vista will do.

Pfffft, get off it, I'm primarily a PC guy, but I also have a Mac and love OS X. It's a more refined OS than Windows XP. 3 programs my a*s. What programs do you think it's lacking?

Edit: The writer of that piece cites "20-30 seconds" as instant? Hell, My XP laptops come out of hybernation that fast easily.

I'll wait to see if it works for apple then get my PC with it. Apple's innovator but when it comes to PC everything is better, cheaper and improved. From Ipods to file manager (finder/explorer) I think the PC stuff is more refined.

Well we'll just have to disagree. "Refined" is not a word I think of when I think of Windows. Serviceable, efficient, maybe.
In any case, I believe MS already has an "instant on" scheme as well, which will debut with Vista.
You know of a portable music player that is better than the iPod?
The problem is, when MS does try to integrate Apple's cool ideas into their work, it ends up seeming like a retarded person interpreted the thing and then handed it over to a deaf, dumb and blind person to implement it. It's simply not their strong suit.

You can't be serious? You need to get out of P&N and rediscover what you came to a tech forum for in the first place..Check out GH once in awhile.🙂

You are thinking of Stand By mode which is completely different from Hibernation.

My PC only turns on about 2 times a year... after I pull it out and spray it out in the back yard with my compressor.

It should be really easy to boat a 64 bit machine nearly instantly if flash memory is used. All apple/intel needs to do is memory map 512 megs of flashram into the addresses used by the boat loader and then you no longer will have to wait for the OS to read the libaries and programs from the hard drive.
