Hi I have a problem with my Macintosh performa 630cd I plug in the power for the monitor and I get a green light on the monitor but when I plug the cord that goes from the monitor to the computer I plug it in and the green light on the monitor goes off so if anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. Thanks

what year is this? my family had the same computer, bought new in 1992.

edit: correction, we had a performa 600CD

Were the Macs of that era capable of powering down their monitors if they didn't detect an incoming signal?

Wow! Blast from the past!

Sorry, I can't help you though. 🙁

BTW, Wikipedia said it came out in 1994, so 20 years ago.

What happens when the computer is turned on? Does the green light stay off?

My guess is the monitor is flaking out - especially if it's original. Those 1990's-era Macs are starting to develop issues with the electronics failing after all these years - specifically the capacitors.

You could try connecting a different monitor to the computer and see what happens.

Try 68kmla.org and lowendmac first.

Probably PRAM battery or PSU's dead, though.

That's just the behavior you'd get if the machine wasn't on.

Unless the signal is making the monitor crap out. (You should be able to find a DB-15 to VGA adapter cheap to plug another monitor into it.)

Is the 630 giving you startup chimes and stuff?

Don't knock the old machines. You'll make my TI-99/4a sad, and when it cries the SCSI chain on the SGI starts acting funny.
