Apple/Macintosh operating system designation ?

I am looking for Macintosh drivers for a particular HP printer.

The listings for O/S choices on the HP website lists MAC 9 & MAC X.

Is MAC X supposed to represent MAC 10 ?

And I'm pretty sure it has no real meaning any more and is just a brand at this point, like MS tried with NT.
 
and if you are running 10.6 you could just plug in the printer and hit the system update from the apple menu and it may grab the driver automatically as well
