Ebates also gives a 6% rebate for Target online purchases, so that should take care of the tax charges. Shipping is only about $10.

The only bad part is that they only have 256MB ram. From what I've seen, the mini is not really made to be upgraded by the user.

Umm you can upgrade RAM and the Harddrive pretty easily.. apparently you havent seen enough.. Theres a video out there on the net that shows you how to open it.. basically just pry the bottom open with a putty knife.

Yea, and Apple has said that it will still be under warranty as well. So modify-away!

Still under warrantee as long as you don't mess anything up in the process. So do some research and take your time.

I'm leaning toward getting one. It will make a sweet little media center and looks great imo. Something that will get a 'ooh, neat' out of people instead of ???.

Damn ipod was segway drug into the apple cult. :)

Anyone have a link to a site showing how to open the case? I'm striking out with Google.
Also, MacMall has the cheaper one for $494 with free shipping, and they supposedly have them in stock. I didn't even have to pay sales tax, so I've got that going for me, which is nice.

Apple updates its product lines approximately twice a year or less.

Was going to order from MacMall, but picked one up a 1.25GHz model at my local Apple Store today. In the process of setting up (currently posting from my Shuttle SB75G2). This Mac Mini is going to sit right on top of the Shuttle.

I was about to order from Target.com, but I checked out that MacMall Doesn't charge me for shipping or sales tax, so it's a deal for $494 for me for the 1.25 mini. This will go great with my iPod.

Wonder if employee discount stacks with the coupon... would make it $400...

I'm no mac fan, but my dad has been wanting one to mess around with

Pix please. It'd be interesting to see the size comparison vs. the Shuttle. Please post the pix here or in this thread.

A Mac mini would not be that great for video editing, unless it's just basic iMovie stuff. And even with iMovie, 1 GB RAM is recommended, and a 7200 rpm hard drive helps. The 1.42 GHz G4 is only just OK too. (You can add memory after the fact, and I suppose you can use an external Firewire 3.5" drive, but you can't do anything about the CPU.)

The dual Power Mac G5 is excellent for video editing though. ;)
