Apple's notice states that if the Nvidia graphics processor "has failed, or fails within two years of the original date of purchase, a repair will be done free of charge, even if your MacBook Pro is out of warranty." It adds that Apple is paying refunds to people who may have paid for repairs associated with the problem themselves.

Why is this notice much later than other manufacturers? I thought Apple prided themselves on quality service and support. Or is this something that the maczealots tell themselves at night so they can sleep saying that they 'paid' for better quality?

I'm not a maczealot, but it is likely that they wanted to be sure of the problem before issuing a press release so I don't view their decision to take time in making this announcement with much negativity. SUcks about the nVidia problem though, I'll have to look for a laptop without nVidia now.

Acer machine looks pretty good in the link though  Just reliability is a cause for concern. How long is the warranty?

The problem isn't with *every* NVIDIA chip. To my knowledge, it's mainly with GeForce 8400M and 8600M chips. Any NVIDIA hardware in upcoming MacBooks is likely to stem from the GeForce 9M series and (hopefully) isn't affected by the manufacturing glitch.

It was also in the 7xxx series mobile processors and a handful of 6xxx series mobile chips.
