Apple has their BAD ASS 30" LCD out. Where is an LCD that can come ANYWHERE close to it for the PC? Is Apple that far ahead of the game? What is going on?

$3300? Apple has a very limited niche market at those prices. For LESS money, I could buy two 23" 16ms WUXGA panels from Sony or HP (which use the same screens as the Apple 23" LCDs, I might add).

Ugh, Sony? No way... Anyhow, I have my HTPC hooked up to my 48" HDTV... what was that about Apple? ;)

If you really want to flush your cash down the john though, can't you hook up that Apple display to a PC? It's probably using a standard connection... and if not, you can probably buy an adapter.

In order to get the native resolution on the 30", you need a DL-DVI capable card.

Also, you can buy the 30" for ~2800 online. Still pricey, but hey the high end stuff comes at a price.

Cheers!

the pc industry has no need to appease apple's 1% market share. if you really want to spend 2800+ on a 30" lcd go for it, anything over 20" is wasted for me.

Say what you want; Sony's 23" LCD is every bit as good as Apple's or anyone elses...because they use the exact same panel.

So what? That panel is connected to circuitry and can be purchased at different QA levels. An LCD is not just the panel.

What's the resolution on your 48" HDTV? I don't think it's going to be anywhere close to 2560x1600 Apple LCD is running at. ;)

I don't think you can connect that Apple display to regular PC as it needs special Nvidia Geforce 6800 Ultra DDL graphics card. Regular DVI on all PC graphics card maxes out at 1920x1200. You need more power to power that 30" beast!

if u do to the apple website it says it needs the 6800 ultra. one thing i do like about there displays is the wide screen i wish i could get a widescreen crt

"apple ahead of the game"
better os than windwos xp but what os isnt lol
not for gaming
for video editing not doom 3 and lcds are not good for gaming

the 1 thing i think i like about mac os is memory usage is better than windows xp

unless u have tons of money dont get a mac i have a friend who has a pc for gaming and a mac laptop for everything else he wants to do.
browsing the internet
e-mail

waste of money!!

It's the limitation of the single DVI interface. Not graphic card power.

Why stop there? Why not buy quartet of 19" CRTs for like under $100 each. Or even better go to your local Goodwill and pick up used for $100 total. ;)

Or do this.

For some reason that made me think of Grumpy Old Men with the remote control trick through the window. Except that you would use a DLP projector set in rear project mode and point it at the neighbors curtains so they see the image correctly. Connect it to a PC and go to the goat-se site or equivalent.

Cheers!

2560 x 1600 optimal resolution, that's what about Apple. :)

All of you thinking 20" is plenty, have never played with a good 30" LCD. Who needs AA with a resolution of 2560x1600 (sh!t, 1920x1200 is bad ass enough)? And at that resolution, not even a SUPER high end $15,000 plasma will come ANYWHERE close to it. I have a 21" Sony (CRT) and can tell you, a 30" high res LCD would be BAD ASS! The same people saying a 20-23" LCD is plenty, are the same people that said SLI is a waste. And speaking of SLI, a 30" LCD for the PC that can do that res would be a GREAT match for 2 6800GT/Ultras running in SLI. AWESOME I tell you, AWESOME!

I played a little Doom 3 and UT 2004 this weekend on a 30" LCD. It was AWESOME but unfortunately the LCD could only do 1280x768. :( I could just imagine if there were a 30" LCD similar to Apple's, how much better the experience could have been. Throw in 5.1 surround sound and you're in heaven...well since I was playing Doom 3 I'd be in hell. :)

And lastly, I don't want to hear people bitching about price since all I've heard lately is "when is SLI coming." SLI is expensive as HELL. Most of the people looking for SLI are looking at 2 6800GTs or Ultras which bring the price JUST for the video cards at around $1000. And that is just so you can play games. A sweet ass 30" LCD can be used for much more....like some sweet ass 1080p action. :) You'll be hard pressed to find a high end plasma, DLP, or >30" LCD that can do that at ANY price. :)

Yeah, but I don't like big black frames in the middle of my games or movies. ;)

Big, yes. But with all of the gamers here, what is the rise and fall? Like the new 17" e-yama (from iiyama) is 14ms rise, 10ms fall.

What is that about size vs how you use it? ;)

Have you got a link to it JackBurton? Too lazy to go hunting for it at the moment.

BTW, have seen the Iiyama 40" and 46" attached (to a X800 Pro no less) playing 1080p video. Everyone who saw it wanted it. :) It was a huge desktop running at 1920x1080. It is fun.

I played around with Apple's 30" LCD at the Apple retail store. It was awesome! If I was still single, I would have bought it.

I think the Apple display is 16ms rise and fall but don't quote me on that.

As far as the liyama 40" and 46"....DAMN! Are those LCDs? If it can do 1920x1080, that's enough for me. Do you have a link?

I dont know of any PC video card that offers Dual Link for DVI, plus not many have 3000+$ to spend on just a display. 3000$ can build you a top of the line gaming rig.

In addition, Im not sure if games are able to display its native resolution.
Also, there will be interpolation for the HD resolutions.

if i could have a 30in lcd i would take it, i love the dual 23 in cinimea displays in one of the editing labs at school. Beautiful.

i don't really have the money for a 30in display, the 23's look nice, but that'll require several months of rent to be affordable. =\

Here is a link to
Big Yomamas

If you go to their main US page here and click Display Solutions (no link as is a script), you can see one of the ways I have seen them configured.
