A ban on sales of older models of Apple's iPad and iPhone in the US has been overturned by the Obama administration.

In June, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled that Apple infringed a patent of rival Samsung.

President Barack Obama's trade representative has now vetoed that decision because of its "effect on competitive conditions in the US economy".

Such a veto is a relatively rare event.

Dumb ass decision by the administration. A patent is supposed to give the holder an advantage in the marketplace.

Apple welcomed the news and applauded Mr Obama "for standing up for innovation". It added: "Samsung was wrong to abuse the patent system in this way."

Its only OK for Apple to abuse the patent system.

LOL... I wonder how much this cost Apple. Trade Representatives probably don't come cheap!

It's amazing how these so called American companies that consider an American too expensive to employ to make their gadgets have no shame, crying to their government when they get butt hurt on the world stage, and the bought and paid off politicians accommodate them.

Of course this will NEVER come back to bite us in the butt when other countries do the same thing when their companies abuse the patents held by US companies. Nope, never.

Another idiotic decision by an administration quickly proving itself to be one of the best at consistently making bad decisions.

Apple and Samsung have been in a patent war where seemingless uninovative aspects of their products are cause for litigation between each other. Such things as "round buttons". Theres actually a profit incentive from the infringment payouts after settlements.

apple is actually starting to move production back to the US, which has probably bought a decent amount of good faith from the politicians.
