I still have my Apple IIe and would like to meet others who are interested in maintaining their systems. My computer and its 140K drives still work and I still have my original graphics software that I collaborated on with members of the local user group in Calgary, AB.

Sometimes I wonder :\ why software developers use so much code for simple applications. The answer is, of course, obvious; you need more reins and harnesses to guide all those horses! Today, I can find nearly any software I could ever dream of building. It's all there to be bought or shared. BUT, the simple programming software that I like such as, gwbasic, turtle basic, Dartmouth basic, etc, are not used as much and may not be available anymore in a format that can be run on current machines.

Where I, as a new Apple (Not Macintosh) user in 1983, had been able to write a full blown basic and machine language graphics design and print program by simply reading a "howto" book, most programmers today have to go to college or have really remarkable genes. I strongly suspect that each of you reading this have goodly combinations of both. Good on you  and congratulations to your parents.

mom17shoes,

I'd love to see pics or video of your machine, it's cool that it is still working, sort of like having a bit of history in your den. What other Apple machines do you have?

It would be cool to use one as a dumb terminal and somehow network the thing and use it for sending retro monochrome e-mails and word processing.
