I agree about the CPU change. But, this seems like an inventory dump by Apple. I think they may have changed directions when the G5 died and now wants to just get out of Motorola. If this is the case, I'd expect something big in the next bit. We may be 6 months away even, but think about the technology Apple has at it's disposal. The Hypertransport bus, FireWire2, and, of course, the one they're shipping, Gigabit Ethernet. That's some serious I/O and internal bandwith. IBM has always worked with Apple and I really believe that new IBM PPC chip could be the future of Apple. From what I've read, the chip could work with the Hypertransport natively with practicly no changes.

With the SF show coming quickly in Sept, I think we're going to see improved iBooks and Titaniums. If we see the iBook reaching near 1Ghz and the Titanium breaking 1GHz, we're going to see the next generation Apple processor for 2k3 or the Apolo G4 to hold them off until July at MacWorld NY. Apple never wants its consumer line to "outclock" its pro. A 933MHz iBook, 1GHz PowerBook, near 1GHz or 1GHz iMac.........I don't think Apple will get high enough speeds from the current CPU to use it again, without moving to it's high end brother.

IBM doesnt like AltiVec. So I dont think Apple is going to go to them for everything.

Want to bet? There are extra incentives for students right now. They end at the end of Sept. I dont expect anything before then. Plus the word out there says Apple said no new laptops before January. Id love to see a new TiBook, or even a new iBook, but dont expect anything yet. iBook should be next I think... Anyhow, I dont expect any new hardware at the San Fran show. Im getting ready to buy a Ti though, and it would be great if they did come out with a new one...

I think the iBook is next in line for the update. 700MHz G3 makes it the slowest, weakest machine in Apple's whole line. Boosting it to near 1GHz G3 even would be great. Didn't notice the sale. When those things end we usually see refreshed hardware.
