Apple G5 case + Non-Mac Components

The MAC G5 has to be the nicest case to ever be produced. Ever. (all Apple products are works of art in and of themselves). I took a look at the apple site... and the pictures they posted of teh Appl G5, both internally and externally, and i must say, that the guts of the computer seem to be rather strange... the motherboard, etc... although i am not too familiar with apple products or anything of the sort.

Here is my questoin: is it possible to someone purchase the case and put in computer parts such as the A64 chip... Nforce 3 or 4 mobo... etc. etc.? It would be an interesting project... not to mention the power supply you can see there... rather thin.. but perhaps duable? The caes is also silent... just a dream case... Perhaps even keep the same psu...

What are your thoughts?

I also think the Power Mac G5's look nice. 🙂
You can mod Mac cases for PC parts. But before you go to all that trouble chek out the Lian Li PC-V1200.
It's got a very Macish look to it. 😉

i swear i saw just that kinda mod a while back. don't have the site bookmarked though. people have done it to g4 cases too, but those aren't as nice obviously. all the cooling temp sensing and software control for the fans will be gone though... and the temperature zones... so i dunno😛 lots of work.

IT is so damned sleek... sexy... suave... urbane... pick an adjective 😉. I am a mimialistic person and i believe more is less... and apparently apple follows that philosophy. When they design a product, it is of the highest quality and incredible design. Their cinema displays, ibooks, ipods, imacs, name a product - not too much going on , i.e. not a cheap looking case that tries to make itself more than it is...

it is the nicest case on the market. period.

I just want to know if that option is open to me... keeping the same power supply... the same hard drive setup they have... the only difference will be the motherboard, graphics card (which shou, dnt be a problem) RAM, and CPU...

YOUR THOUHGTS?

It will not fit without an incredible amount of chop work on your part. Unless you are highly creative and skilled with tools/metal working, just pick up a Lian Li V series case.

yes, it can be done. the dude who modded his G5 into a PC used duck tape to mount the motherboard and etc to the interior of the case. i thought it was pretty neato. i lost hte link to it after i just reformatted, but i'll see if i can find you that link. 🙂

please do find that link. I would highly highly appreciate it... and sparkyclarky, the lian lis do not hold a candle to the mac... i know, they try to immitate, but it will never be the real thing

thanks guys

Here, I found the link to it. 🙂 enjoy.

I would love to do this mod, but finding a G5 case is impossibly difficult to get wihtout spending a fortune. As for my favorite actual PC case, it's the lian li pc-v1000, like the one some of the others mentioned.

Mik3y is confused. That article is a photochop job which was fessed up to a few days later. The fact remains that it is very difficult to shoehorn a PC into a G5 case. We have them at work. The case itself is rather small. It has a board layout completely different from the PC. The front and rear connectors are all custom jobs (e.g. no ATX backplate). The fan zones are all custom. The closest thing you'll get is something like the V series. I have a v2000, and like it quite a bit. No, it is not as nice as the Mac case. But it is fairly smooth for what it is.

edit: read the link again - I seem to have selective memory
Apparently it is a real job, but I do remember that it was a prank of some sort. But the above conclusions still stand, and that is still a hack job on that case.
