Apple forces manufacturers to stop making Zenbooks...

Oh come on man, is Apple going to patent white boxes now? The technology to create white boxes wasn't even available before Apple came out with their packaging. No way is Samsung ripping them off. 🙄

At the rate they're going, they'll probably patent the Nema 5-15 (and 5-20 to be safe) standards too. Heck, why stop there. They'll patent the concept of having a device plugging into another device in order to transfer energy to a device in order to charge it.

I think this stupid patent/trademark/copyright crap is retarded. Who freaking cares if it looks the same. Business is business.

If a company has the ability to sell something, then all the power to them, they should be able to manufacture and sell it.

This has nothing to do with patents/trademarks.

It has everything to do with, Apple telling its manufactures that, if the manufactureres want Apples billion dollary gravey train to stay, they aren't to directly compete with them. They can still make ultrabooks for other companies, but Pegatron cannot directly compete with them or they will lose billions in future deals to make iphones/ipads/laptops.

So is Sony about to get a memo from Lenovo?

This a much closer match than the Zen is to the Apple.

Does Lenovo make laptops for Sony? This isnt a trademark/patent issue. This is we have a contract and I can freely contract with whoever I want and if you directly compete with me you won't get a new contract.

Samsung will sue them when their Apple TV is nothing but a derivative of Samsung's Smart TV's....and they will be.

heh I was going to post something similar. IIRC, Samsung has a shit load of patents relating to TVs. There's bound to be some retaliatory patent lawsuits when appletv comes out

At this point, I think that Apple is more powerful (and anti-competitive) than Microsoft ever was. The only real difference is that Apple has a better PR department, and the media loves them.

The question is what have they done that is actually illegal?

This isnt Intel telling Dell that, if Dell doesn't sell AMD procs, Intel will sell Dell Intel Procs to Dell for cheaper than it would sell to co's selling AMD procs.

Yes, that patent was probably one of the few to get turned down. 😛

But seriously, yes you enjoy a little sarcasm here... but, wait, care to explain (aside from possibly infringing on patents that should not rightfully exist according to standard business protocols and prior art) how any of this is illegal and/or ethically/morally/whateverly wrong?

Oh, you can't? :hmm:

Do note: I am not defending Samsung in any way. They are a cutthroat corporation run like a mafia. They test every boundary line possible, and who knows how they handle things behind the scenes in the business scene itself... they have gotten quite dirty with their practices (oh, wait... who else would fit that description... hmm)
But everyone seems to be jumping on Samsung here, as if they are doing something wrong (and defending Apple's "right" to protect their "property", when all they do is repeat what other Apple trolls spill from their mouth when not sucking on the Apple marketing tit).
Sometimes the best method of competition is going head to head, in every way, with the competitor, by imitating their flair and spinning it into your own.

Again, not saying Samsung's approach is great or whether it will benefit us in the end, hurt us, result in one or more companies leaving the market, or what have you. Merely stating it like it is... whether you support their methods or not, it doesn't really matter. In the end, Apple should have no legal right to block Samsung from selling similar-looking products. A direct copy of the device itself, to the point that, aside from a logo, it is effectively the same? That's one thing. Imitating the packaging? Well, it'll inflame fanboys I guess.

Years ago, I was an Apple user. I grew out of it and was a happy Windows user for a long time, disillusioned with Apple but I had a live and let live attitude - if other people preferred their products, whatever.

In the last year or so Apple has made me really, really hate them. It's one thing to come up with your own stuff; people can decide whether or not to buy them or not. But I draw the line at legal actions intended to prevent me from choosing one product or another. Their old strategy was "innovate and let the market decide; our products should be good enough that people will want them." The new strategy is "sue everyone until no one is allowed to sell gadgets except us."

Fuck Apple. I hope all their products get banned worldwide until they agree to stop this ridiculous patent trolling.

I used to simply not care for apple. I didn't like their interface or the closed system they have. Too much of a hardware nerd to be an apple guy I guess 😛

Apple has pushed me from not caring to pretty much totally loathing them.

Who is trying to sue Apple? Who??!

There are multiple cases against Apple pending in the rocket docket. Just last year they lost a $350million patent case there.

In another instance they have been patent trolled three times by the same company on the same patent. Which has only happened because of judicial incompetence when it comes to technology. Using the wrong language in the judicial ruling has allowed them to sue again, and now again, over the same issue and same patent.

Of Course there is Paul Allens Patent Trolling Company suing Apple.

As is the other most recent patent troll, posted in another thread.

As for cellphones, currently everyone is suing everyone.

Samsung and Apple have multiple suits against each other.

HTC and Apple have multiple suits against each other.

Motorolla and Apple have multiple suits against each other.

Everyone is suing everyone for everything.

Except MS. MS has somehow convinced some of Googles partners to just give MS money instead of being sued.

Apple at the moment is the leader of innovation

Indeed. Apple new 4S have amazing AMOLED 4.5" 1280x720 screen, rather than inferior Android 3.5" screens that require magnifying glass to read. Not the mention rockin' 4G LTE, over 5x faster than those cheap Android phones with HSPA. With new and revolutionary notification bar!

Not the mention Iphone 4S amazing durability, as shown on this video.

IPAD2 of course, is rocking brand new Nvidia Tegra 3, a world first ARM quad core. Those Android tablets still stuck on dual core.

Didnt HTC just recently admit their LTE phones(and all other LTE phones out right now) were shit?

LTE though fast suck battery life like crazy, which is why Apple is waiting for the second generation of LTE chipsets.

Kind of funny how other companies follow the same anti-competitive practices as Apple does and nobody cares but if Apples does something, the haters come out in droves. Pretty sad.

Good thing there's no LTE phone that MAXXimizes battery life. 🙂

JackBurton sure is one defensive fanboi if there ever was one! You should know the whole line about what competition results in, no point in reiterating it.

Apple knows it won't win these suits in court. Though they do know they are expensive and time consuming for their competitors. Apple sure is an innovator though, they are leading the way in the fresh new industry of IP/Patent litigation.

that argument works both ways, you know...
