I dare someone to show up at one of those gatherings with an Android or Blackberry. Or a macbook running windows 98, just to really throw people off.

Plenty seemed to stop for Michael Jackson. D:

Don't really get the relationship here. Michael Jackson was probably one of the most influential people of our lifetimes and never contributed to anything that would earn a Nobel Prize.

I live in a pretty major metropolitan area. Most of our children have smartphones. Sadly I have called on incidents up to a hour old and 911 had no record of it (although most of the time seems to want to give me a hard time for reporting it).

You have a better chance of your picture ending up on the internet in an accident/altercation than someone calling for help.

So where's the Apple death watch thread like there is for RIM? Surely with the messiah gone they're headed for the shitter now...

I won't mourn him (though my thoughts and prayers go out to his family) or put up a memorial for his legacy, but to celebrate his death as a victory for other companies is just poor taste.

We're talking about a guy who died of cancer here. Love or hate Apple, Jobs, etc. - who cares. This isn't Hitler we're talking about, though.

Agreed...making fun of the fanbois and Apple douche bags is still fair game though, his death is an entirely separate issue

Taking advantage of a man's death just to make extra fun of fans is not a separate issue... and it's childish. This anti-Apple bullshit is worse than apple fans. The worst part of being an Android user is being roped together with you douchebags who can't be decent enough to put aside an asinine competition for a few fucking days and just let things be. Ask mommy to get you an extra juice box and just chill.

It's entirely a separate issue, sounds like someone needs to grow up a bit and get out of mommies basement...and bite me on the android bullshit, RIM is and always will be the first "smart" phone maker and hands down the best and most secure corporate mobile device...Apple douches and the much newer android douches need to just get over it

And if the Apple idiots weren't so damn stupid about this shit it wouldn't be so bad, but they quite literally WORSHIPED Jobs, fucking morons...

I do feel for his REAL family though...RIP

what are you talking about? RIM's issue is no one has to pay for licensing outside them and most employees are more than willing to source their own android or iphone.

What are you talking about? The MESSIAH is dead, Apple is a goner....and secure communication is worth the cost, Apple and Andriod don't have it yet

I take it you are not a network engineer to think only RIM has secure communication.

I take it you don't realize how easy it is to beige box your residence.

Haha...I'm sure you're an "expert"...and while I'm not a network engineer (not relevant really) I am an admin and know the difference, while there have been great strides in the last couple years in Android and iOS it's still not on par with BB

EDIT: those strides btw have mostly been with third party apps, not native functionality like the BB...seriously, a 4 digit numeric unlock code only with no limit on attempts?

Thank you! Somebody needed to say it. The anti-Apple folk are getting more ravenous than the fanboys.

As for the lineups, there's this weird public grieving thing going on these days. People line up to leave flowers and cry for those they never met, or were never influenced by. I don't understand it. Maybe they feel like they're part of something by doing it. Who knows.

seriously who loses their phone and wouldn't wipe it.

Anyone with serious email would make that their first point of contact.

I don't hate BB but their marketing model is going dinosaur.

Nobody needed to say anything...a good man's death is is not being "celebrated" by anyone...the idiots "mourning" their "loss" is something to talk about, and essentially make fun of since sheeple are just fucking dumb, really people have no real lives anymore and have to be so invested in , essentially, nobody? He didn't change the world, he didn't change anything, at best he was a "next design star" contestant who would have maybe won, personally I think his designs sucked but I appear to be in the minority in that opinion...

Most that are lining up were probably influenced by it. Many were probably just lining up to add to some kind of hoped for chaos.

Most of the greatest people on this planet most have never met.

and how would you "natively" wipe it if you lost it? There are "apps" for that but for my execs who are clueless I don't want to have to visit each of them to download and setup something to take care of something so simple...and a simple thing like built in password attempt limits is a no brainer for corp devices really...iPhones are toys and good at it, for corp use a BB can't be beat

you must not work in a real enterprise level corp.

No one is buying BB anymore except a small niche. They won't be able to keep up with the overhead once EVERYONE wants an Android or iPhone.

Most execs that are clueless won't be seen with a shitty BB.

Now you sound like a fanboi, not sure which breed though...seriously you just said that shit? Android and iOS are nice CONSUMER grade devices, for a corp environment they are not up to par yet. We have an over 10k user base with close to 5k using mobile devices, less than 500 are using Android or iOS, which wanted them because they were "cool" etc., with the security loop holes they present we have stopped issuing them, period. If you have to download a third party app to make something "secure" in the case of loss it isn't really worth the effort.

Hey, back off alky. He's just got his "network engineering" certifications and he's not afraid to use them. I'd be careful if I were you.

I don't see that happening, yet. I heard the calls for iPhone, but the execs were the ones who said fuck that as they use the devices for emailing, constantly, and couldn't care less if everyone else wants cool apps on their new toy. Not just execs, but the people who love BBM as well, and there are tons who refuse to lose their BBM. I have people in my office who have a BB from the company and still purchase their own so they can keep their BBM's off the company phone.

watching the local news, they are showing all the vigils in Cupertino.

some dude left an iPad at the shrine near the "garage house," I think.

..I wonder how long it took for someone grabbed that free iPad?

This. iOS and Android and not even close to secure, yet. No idea what's taking them so long. Does RIM have patents on the key technologies?
