Apple dumps portalplayer chip

"so-called NAND flash memory"

why would it be so-called?

and why are MP3 players called MP3s?

funny...I just wrote a term paper on why apple should dump the portalpalyer chip in lui of something better and use somethign better than a wolfson codec.....maybe i should send this article to my writing professor.....🙂

"But this week PortalPlayer (PLAY) disclosed that a forthcoming chip won't be showing up in a planned version of Apple's (AAPL) iPod nano."

There is a problem here....it only said they will discontinue the chips in the nano. However, the chips are used in the other iPods as well...Are they trying to make a claim that thios means portalplayer chips are out on all of apple's new ipods? Also, the portalplayer chip is not just in Ipods. its also in irivers as well.....

Dag. Apple pwned that small company.

Have you seen their market cap? They aren't small.

They'll be small now ... 🙂 Apple was their biggest customer.

definitely brings up the need of diversification, even with your customer base.

Apple was IBM PPC chips's main and biggest customer for a while. It's probably a good thing for IBM to extend their reach to consoles.

gotta be sigmatel. they've got all of rio's people now, and rumours about new, killer sigmatel platforms have been rampant.

maybe we'll finally get a gapless ipod?
