Apple dumps NVidia for ATi

"People laughed, and their laughter was testament to their lack of understanding of how product cycles work. Nvidia has utterly failed to deliver what they promised for two generations of chips now, has had multiple generations of GPUs die in the field, and utterly lacks a viable laptop part."

People laughed? There have been many of Nvidia's failures predicted by many, for quite some time now. I don't think I'd be buying any Nvidia products as it's a risky adventure if you intend on keeping it a long time. Look for more trouble ahead for Nvidia.

That's a lousy article, and I'm sure Charlie knows it. NV GPUs are still in Apple's entire line of laptops (which outsell their desktops) and in the Mac Mini. More than likely this due to the fact that NVIDIA doesn't have suitable Fermi chips below the GTX 460 yet, and the latter would be in short supply by Apple standards since it just launched. I mean really, what else are they going to put in an iMac right now?

This is not a surprise at all. MAC always has been using ATI on their comps, not counting their laptops. Just talking about their silver box servers.

They sell you a nice system like a xeon 8 core but put in a very budget cheap no good for games video card in there like a ATI 2600 or 2900XT or 3870 on their newer boxes. Let them have their ATI because they have always been ATI. nVidia wanted to get tons of money to cut a deal with apple. What does the PS3 use ATI right, xbox microsoft nVidia are all committed to each other. Your going to see the nVidia sign in all your games like UT3 and Gears and Crysis. Maybe ATI AMD freakin 3 names for a company might go ahead of them in 2020. Sorry for going a little off topic there. Thank you

God Bless

With the arrival of the GTX 460, ATI fanchimps like Charlie are freaking out because the window of being able to squeal like a girl watching Twilight is closing and desperate clutching for any sign of setbacks for nVidia are pounced upon. Yeah, "Thermi" wasn't awesome, but the awesome 2nd rev parts are coming and it's leaving the babies all emo.

Most of those fanboys just said that fermi wouldn't come before christmas (not like the nvidia fanboys) and would not work when it did. Nvidia did manage to release a partially disabled product well into the New Year, that really hasn't sold well because of the heat/power thing. Think everyone expected 2nd rev parts to be much better - but they are very late to the party.
