So yea, call me a traitor, I was browsin' through the Apple store, lookin at stuff, and I saw their didplays, now i've seen these at compusa before, and as I recall, it was like a picture frame, what do you guys think of the 17 inch one, from a gamer/movie enthusiast's stand-point?

Linky :)

edit: ummm, well I just realized the mac ONLY connector scheme, so I guess I won't be getting that any time soon :( oh well

The Apple Cinema Display's are very very good displays. They look excellent and, while pricey, are very good quality.

As for Mac only, you can buy a converter to convert to a PC for around 100-150.

I could also get an NEC or Dell display for that much moola, and make it a 19' to boot, if it weren't for that handicap, I would prolly look into one of those :(

Your best bet would be to head back up the compusa you mentioned in your post and try out a few monitors for yourself. Compare it to similarly priced LCD's from other manufacturers. One of the big things I have noticed at my local compusa is that they are often not running many of the LCD's at their native resolution, so they tend to look worse than they should. However, if you go on weekday (when they aren't too busy) you will be able to get someone to help you do some comparison shopping and set the systems hooked up to the monitors you are interested in to the correct rersolution..They probably already have a FPS installed on one of their display machines, so you could check out any potential ghosting.

Edit: The price of the Apple 17" is $699 currently. From reading this forum for a while, I have heard about people getting the Dell 2001FP for around $750 by waiting for special deals and stacking coupons. This is $50 more for a 20" display. Anandtech did a review on it last year. http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1918
