I find this funny :D

March 23:
DigiTimes: Apple may delay Leopard release till October

March 25:
From Apple Insider: "Carve out another notch in the loss column for Taiwanese-based DigiTimes, which on Friday reported that Apple's next-generation Leopard operating system would be delayed till October."

April 12:
iPhone has already passed several of its required certification tests
and is on schedule to ship in late June as planned. We can't wait until
customers get their hands (and fingers) on it and experience what a
revolutionary and magical product it is. However, iPhone contains the most
sophisticated software ever shipped on a mobile device, and finishing it on
time has not come without a price -- we had to borrow some key software
engineering and QA resources from our Mac OS(R) X team, and as a result we
will not be able to release Leopard at our Worldwide Developers Conference
in early June as planned.
While Leopard's features will be complete by
then, we cannot deliver the quality release that we and our customers
expect from us. We now plan to show our developers a near final version of
Leopard at the conference, give them a beta copy to take home so they can
do their final testing, and ship Leopard in October. We think it will be
well worth the wait. Life often presents tradeoffs, and in this case we're
sure we've made the right ones.

iPhone is gonna fail, it's going to be like every other phone out there, and barely take any market share.

Well consider the fact that when Jobs showed the iPhone in January, it was still missing features because they'd hidden them, likely because they weren't completed yet. I'd imagine it's quite an undertaking to get it finished by June, especially when you're porting your OS to an entirely new CPU architecture that isn't nearly as powerful as your typical desktop computer.

The iPhone is so hyped they had to make it perfect, IMHO.

I am disappointed that Leopard/iLife is being held back, though. :(

and the original ipod had terrible battery life in it's pre-release form as well. you can't say anything about it until it's released really.

with that said, I can't see it having a decent battery life at all... and am very upset it took resources away from leopard. Granted, it doesn't surprise me given many of the developers pretty much saying June seems very pushed.

Now the iPhone is going to be expected to be even more hyped for delaying the OS, and the OS is going to be expected to be virtually flawless when it finally gets here... yeah, apple seems like they put themselves in quite the position

Source for this info? IIRC, talk time was spec'd at like 5 hours in the keynote. Sure it may be less, but 1 hour? I don't think so, especially since it's a GSM phone, so the radio is pulsed, not constantly on.

meh, same as rigging a V8 Mustang engine in a crappy Honda. Congrats, you now have a crappy Honda that's pretending to be something it'll never be.

Isn't the iPhone expensive for a phone with a MP3 player? I was really hoping for new Macbooks w/ Leopard being released during WWDC. :(

Something that I don't quite understand... Maybe due to the fact that this is going to be mass marketed in the US... but there are PLENTY of phones out there that cost as much if not more than the iPhone....

Nikon N95 - $889 - http://www.myworldphone.com/nokia_n95.html
SE P990i - $477 - http://www.myworldphone.com/p990i.html
Nokia 8800 - $879 - http://www.myworldphone.com/8800secn.html
Nokia N93 - $737 - http://www.myworldphone.com/n93i.html
and plenty of others...

Just not sure why people are freaking out so much about the price, the newest higher end phones have been this expensive for awhile now...

with a 3-year contract and locked to a provider? (Cingular)

Unlocked GSM phones sell for more than plan-discounted, locked phones ;)

has any of that been substantiated though? I thought the time of contract / final price was still up in the air?

I can get any of those phones, unlocked, with a 1 year contract to T-Mobile under $200 easily. iPhone, i doubt it.

Why do you hate free market economies?

Maybe if they made a "Red" edition you'd want it...
