Apple coolong fans

Where i work there are alot of macs. Does anyone know what type of cooling fans they use? Those things are silent and cool as heck

Only the top-of-the-line G5 uses water cooling, the rest are still air cooled. I think the reason the fans are so quiet is that they run at very low RPMs and their speed is controlled by the OS depending on the temp of each of its 4 thermal zones.

the fans apple uses are real loud...

Ive been to two apple stores and although the fans are spinning extremely slowly, they are at least 3x louder than my 7V Yateloon 120mm. If you put your ear near the case, you can hear faint clicking, and just yuck motor noise in general.

Is it REAL loud as you say if you have to put your ear to the case to hear it.

ok i opened the g5 up they are silent until you take off the 2nd plastic door then it gets loud. i guess the plastic door forms some kind of barrier but when i opened it it was loud no name on the fans so i guess they are custom

I have a G4 and the fan in it does make a 'clicking' sound when running, I have even thought of swapping the darn thing out.

The G5 on the other hand is damn near silent, I have to give Apple major points for thinking it up.

Now if only I could make my PC case work like it...

Yes. With people talking in the background, and it being a large store, you have to get up close. There is no way you would be able to sleep in the same room as these simply because the fans click and whine. They may be quiet ~ 32db machine, but not "silent" by any means, and certainly not "very quiet".

AFAIK, apple uses 38mm fans. I have not heard a single 38mm fan that had a quiet enough motor to be able to compare to the noise output of a 25mm fan. It is as if they were using 5V tornados (which are not quiet by any means).

Now if apple had used low volt 120mm nexus/yateloon, then it would be much more effective/quiet/less fans. I would wager they would only need 2 exhaust 120mm fans to satisfy the cooling requirements. At most add an additional bottom 120mm fan.

Then again, everybody is different. 32db might be quiet to some folks. Unfortunately, not even 24db is quiet enough for me.

they have delta fans in them
I had a buttload of G5 cases at work and I tore one apart to see what kind they were and if I could use them, but the wires are all black and they have a weird 4 or 5 pin connector.
now its just collecting duct
