It's been a year since the lasp iPad. A new one's coming soon.
Soon yes, but not necessarily on Tuesday. It hasn't quite been a year though. The last iPad and the mini were both released in October.

P.S. The Mac Pro deserves an update too soon, but I'm not expecting that next week either. :)

I'd say this will be phone only. Another one next month for iPads and the Mac Pro.

As much as I want to say they will finally cut the BS and move to 32 base, I am not holding my breath

They won't. They make way to much money from the memory upgrades. $100 for a $10 memory cheap is to easy of money for them to not do. I seriously doubt they lose many sales over the strategy either.

I just hope the 5C doesn't start at 8 GB. I suspect it won't (since the 4S started at 16 GB), but who knows.

However, if the 5C starts at 16 GB, it'd be nice to see the 5S at base 32 GB. (Yeah, we can dream.)

The non-flagship phones have only one storage capacity and you can expect it to be modest.

When have they staged an entire event just for one product? That doesn't make sense.

It's for two products, or even three. iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C and probably another demonstration of iOS 7 :p

Would be nice if they also released the updated Macbook Pro range, but one can only hope. Not that I'm buying another one.

I agree, a 16GB and 32GB base spec respectively would certainly give a lot of people an incentive to upgrade.

Eug, do you think that's going to be in the 5S then? I didn't think Apple was going to go the way of NFC, but that's certainly a neat way of hiding it.

Now I do.

Neither did I, since I don't really have a huge need for it in my phone... in NFC's current form that is. I already pay using NFC in my credit cards - both Visa and Mastercard. I don't know how widespread it is in Canada, but it's all over the place here in Canada, esp. on things like gas pumps and in grocery stores and coffee shops, and even larger retail stores too, although the store may limit the purchases via NFC to $50 or $100.

The other benefit of NFC in credit cards is that all you have to do pull out the appropriate card you want to use at that store and tap it. Most of us have more than one credit card. In fact, I have 5 credit cards, three of which with NFC. The two that don't are an old Amex and a US dollar card.

Apple would have to implement some sort of new and very easy-to-use system to get me to use NFC in my phone.

Never once used it on my HOX either. At my University they offer NFC payment using phones, but honestly it's still easier and in my mind, more secure, to use chip and pin. So I definitely agree with what you said regarding Apple simplifying the process.

Edit: Thinking about a simpler way to use NFC, perhaps an option at the lock screen to enable it followed by inputing your PIN code, I'd venture giving that a shot.

Well, making it available on the lock screen by entering the PIN code makes it kinda pointless, since the whole point of NFC is not having to enter your PIN code for small purchases. The credit card method again is easier, and when you pull out the credit card, you pull out the one you want to use, instead of having to select it from an on-screen menu.

Then again, if you're standing in line at the checkout, you can enter your PIN (and select the appropriate credit card account) before getting to the cash. Ironically this wouldn't apply as easily at Apple Stores since there is no line.

HOWEVER: Apple has a fingerprint sensor. No PIN code to worry about. Just press your thumb into the home button and there's your authentication. So maybe that's why Apple decided to integrate NFC and fingerprint sensor in the same iDevice. Perhaps they decided that an effective NFC phone payment system requires an easy authentication system to make it fly, compared to credit cards.

Having NFC wouldn't mean being able to eliminate carrying your credit cards either yet though, since a lot of places won't allow large purchases over NFC.

When have they staged an entire event just for one product? That doesn't make sense.

If the other products are ready yet they don't have a whole lot of choice. From the leaks so far it doesn't look like they are far enough along yet. Certainly if the iPads or MacPro are ready they will be included but I doubt they are.

you guys think they'll update ipods?
Dunno, but they added a new iPod touch model in 2013 already. Mind you that was just a silent update. The major iPod touch update was last October.

Other iPods are due for an update though soon.

iPad makes sense since it's an iDevice, although I too think it will be delayed until later. The Mac Pro doesn't really fit though. It would get either no event - front page at Apple.com - or else a separate event. Maybe with the MacBook Pro?

That didn't stop them from introducing the new Mac Pro. And aside from that, no one's forcing them to have an event at this particular date. They chose it because they have something to show.

The problem I pointed out with the 5C and 5S having a different base storage size is how the pricing would work. If the 5C was 16GB at $99 base while the 5S was 32GB and $199 base, then a 32GB 5C would be $199 and pointless. I'm wondering how they will slot these models together.

I still think there will be a three tier phone offering, not counting bigger sizes, so 5C, 5, and 5S.

Also, the 5C may indeed be pointless, meaning there may not be any 32 GB 5C at all.

They might not offer a 32GB option for the 5C.

Edit: Eug got there just before I.

I'm unsure. I know the 5C will be the highschooler phone to get and kids have a ton of music. The other possibility is that the 5C is free with 16GB, then the 32GB upgrade would be $99.

You two may be right though, they could do one SKU with the 5C. We'll know tomorrow.
