He comments that it feels faster than the 5. The photo collections feature in iOS 7 lags according to him on the iPhone 5, but is smooth on the 5S.

Bought an unlocked 5 last year at launch, so not upgrading to the 5S. Fingerprint scanner is nice, but that's the only interesting change for me. And I'm out of contract, so I could get it for cheap...

I'll wait for the larger screen iPhone 6.

Yep, trolling.

It's an event because people are interested, and want to be there to see the unveiling.

I personally wouldn't fly out there for something like this, but like I said, Apple has mastered the art of manipulation of the media, and is able to hold events like this. And even though I wouldn't fly out there for something like this, I did sit through the hour-long presentation, as did most in this thread here.

Usually when you gather hundreds of people in a room at a particular date and time, it's called an event.

I was wondering exactly how long it takes the phone holding still to stop pinging for a signal. My phone gets terrible signal at my job, and if I leave it on my desk, it might save some battery.

I hope iOS7 isn't too slow on the 5. I will probably wait for the 6 to upgrade.

Very unimpressed with the recent development. I was hoping to be convinced to drop Android for iOS again. All the new features are of 0 value to me and would therefore render the 5S/5C equivalent to the original 5, of which i sold.

The biggest letdown is the fact that the display hasn't changed in resolution... my guess would be for developers and apps being able to function out of the box but we're in the age of 1080p displays with 720p being a fair standard.

Who the fuck cares about the display resolution?! Do you not realize that you PHYSICALLY CANNOT SEE THE PIXELS AT ANY HIGHER? Physically, they do not register to your fucking eyeballs. The only way that could be wrong is if you held it 6" away from your face like a god damn fool.

- S4 has bigger screen, but quality wise its the same as the 5.
- People still harp on Megapixels? The S4 takes nice photos, but I bet the 5S will do better.
- NFC? uh crickets. No one uses this.
- 2GB RAM? Is that why the S4 still stutters?

Who the fuck cares about megapixels. When is the last time I've ever shared a photo at full-resolution from my mobile phone? Let me think about it... Oh, pretty much fucking never. If they capped it at 5 megapixels I'd be fine with it. In fact, I'd be MORE satisfied if they did that because I know the sensor area PER pixel is BIGGER AND THEREFORE BETTER.

NFC is a useless feature to me. I try to pay things with cash so I don't gouge out small businesses on credit card fees (Yes, there are fees even with your debit card!).

I'm going to wait for the 6 next year. I'm still on the 4 :(

Yeah, I'm on the 4. I want the 6 already... but I think I am going to buy the iPhone 5S. I have a feeling the iPhone 5S might be the last hold out before Apple crushes under the pressure from the "WE MUST HAVE A BIGGER SCREEN" crowd. I really like the size of the iPhone 4 a lot. It's basically perfect. Yeah, sure, sometimes I wish it was bigger when I am viewing some websites... but I have a 24" monitor for those moments. I actually think the iPhone 5S has too big of a screen. I hate this larger screen shit everyone wants. I want to forget that I have a phone in my pocket and not have everyone think, "Hey, is that an iPhone in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

Why not wait for the 6S?

Because I have to upgrade at some point and the 6 should have a new form factor, but my 4 is seriously getting long in the tooth but it is a tank and been through the wars.

Probably, but he is right on most points. NFC is stupid for phones. Nobody uses it, and those that want it, can get it on their actual credit cards. Resolution is pretty pointless past retina display on a phone, you don't get extra real estate like on a PC monitor. Megapixels are just a way to give moron consumers something to "compare" and go "oh, that one has the more megapixels and the more geebees". Nobody shares pictures on their phone at full resolution anyway. They upload them to Facebook and Twitter. If you are taking any kind of serious pictures, you aren't using a phone camera, because they suck. Spend $500 on a DSLR and get massively superior quality, plus the ability to use lenses. Keep that hipster (I took this using a potato in 1901) trash filters off it.

The only real complaint I can see is no LTE+ (which probably will decimate batteries just like 4G did when it came out, Apple will refine it), no AC Wifi (which is a surprise, but it isn't finalized yet anyway, so who knows), and no bigger screen (which shouldn't have been expected because it is a 'S' iteration).

My favorite color is the gold followed by the silver. However I'm thinking the silver might hide scratches the best. What do you think?

Is the silver simply textured aluminum, or is it a silver color on top of aluminum through anodization?

I'm confused. Did you read my post? Lol

The silver is bare aluminum.

no AC Wifi (which is a surprise, but it isn't finalized yet anyway, so who knows)

What does make the lack of 802.11ac weird is that Apple already has hardware ( including a router ) that supports it. Although, I doubt that 802.11ac even has decent adoption. I've been tempted to buy a router for a while now, but I pretty much never transfer files over WiFi and you don't exactly need 1300Mbps for browsing the web. Also, the routers that I've been looking at are around $200. I could have gotten a Linksys one down to $160 (also came with a gift card), but I decided against it.

Yeah, I did. I was in support of it. I know it's hard to tell.

I would assume it has battery life issues for iPhone/iOS devices. That's only an assumption as to why.

What the heck would you do with 802.11ac on a phone anyhow?

Hmm, it's turned out pretty much how everyone predicted. I bought a 5 off contract at the beginning of the year to keep unlimited data with verizon so ill skip it. Kinda surprised they discountinuing the 5 but I guess it would pointless with the 5c there.

Fingerprint thing is cool and all but not worth the $ in my particular case.

Although if I was someone with a 4/4s I would bite, I think LTE was best part IMO.

I've never had the purple flare problem with my phone, maybe I'm missing it.

Where's better battery life? That'd be nice, is this 5s much better than the 5?

While 802.11ac would have been nice, I don't think it's that critical. The phone maxes out at a theoretical 100 Mbps LTE anyway, since it doesn't support LTE-Advanced, and real world speeds are half that. So, if it's acting as a mobile access point, it won't go faster than 802.11n speeds.

What I would prefer is 2 GB RAM for future proofing but I have a sneaking suspicion it's still 1 GB.

Too bad you can't get iPhone 5 refurbs at the Apple Store.

Assuming the phone is still on USB 2.0...transfer photos & videos. I fill up my 32GB 4S pretty much weekly and it's a pain to leave it sitting there uploading to my computer via cable. And too slow to do it over Wi-fi. Just an annoyance.

1. Good point about the USB 2. Should have been USB 3.

2. Dropbox costs money, unless you want to be limited to 2 GB or something.
