Here

Who the hell wants to carry around a thousand songs?! That's retarded. This Apple product will fail and probably bankrupt them.

I personally like the people that are still talking smack. That still say that the ipod is a fad, or that apple is making a mistake continuing support

Raise your hand if you have iTunes ...

Raise your hand if you have a FireWire port ...

Raise your hand if you have both ...

Raise your hand if you have $400 to spend on a cute Apple device ...

There is Apple's market. Pretty slim, eh? I don't see many sales in the future of iPod.

You know, I really like the ipod, and the UI on it, hence the reason I am on number 3 (First one was a 4GB mini, sold it to get the 4GB nano since it is solid state. Then got a 30GB 5Gen so I could hold my entire library), but I wonder if the iPhone will take off and be as big of a presence in a few years as the ipod is now. In just 5-6 years the ipod has become the defacto mp3 player in the industry, but i wonder if the iPhone can do the same given the cell phone market.

I seriously doubt it. Given the $600 price tag and it being exclusive to AT&T for 5 years. Even if someone were to figure out how to unlock it, the iPhone would still only work with T-Mobile and other GSM providers. It won't work at all with Sprint, Verizon, or Alltel. Apple would have to put a CDMA chip in the phone to work with them. CDMA chips are more power hungry and bigger than GSM chips, so the phone would be ever so slightly bigger on Sprint or Verizon.

As I was typing this though I realized the RAZR started out the same way. Insanely expensive and exclusive to one carrier for the first half of its life. Now I can't walk down the street without seeing a RAZR or ten.

We will see though...

I used to be a hater...

...until I got one.

The iPod doesn't have the best battery life. Nor the best sound quality. Nor the most features. It's more expensive than competing, similar products. And everyone and their grandmother have one.

But darn...it's a fantastically well designed piece of hardware. Ditto for iTunes, which I used to loathe with immense passion. iTunes is a bit of a hog in Windows, but it's a textbook example of good design. User friendly, yet powerful.

I thought I'd never say this, but my when I upgrade my portable media player at the end of the year, chances are I'll get another iPod.

Part of the problem that geeks like us have is feature envy. We look at the iPod and say, the DAP isn't that great, the battery isn't nearly as good as competing brands, it doesn't have all the nifty features under the sun...but then you have to ask yourself: what do you really want to do with it? iPods are made for simply playing music. You don't really need an audiophile DAP for 128k MP3s, you just need an easy, intuitive user interface so that you can listen to what you want on your headphones, in your car, or on your stereo. The reason the iPod is so successful isn't just because "everyone else has one", it's because non-techies can actually figure out how to use it pretty easily. Usability is a major showstopper for the majority of non-technical people. Apple is smart when it comes to that :)

Isn't this company close to bankruptcy anyway? This will probably put them over.

I loved my 1st-gen iPod- ran perfectly from December '01 until just a few months ago.
