Raise your hand if you have iTunes ...
Raise your hand if you have a FireWire port ...
Raise your hand if you have both ...
Raise your hand if you have $400 to spend on a cute Apple device ...
There is Apple's market. Pretty slim, eh? I don't see many sales in the future of iPod.

You know, I really like the ipod, and the UI on it, hence the reason I am on number 3 (First one was a 4GB mini, sold it to get the 4GB nano since it is solid state. Then got a 30GB 5Gen so I could hold my entire library), but I wonder if the iPhone will take off and be as big of a presence in a few years as the ipod is now. In just 5-6 years the ipod has become the defacto mp3 player in the industry, but i wonder if the iPhone can do the same given the cell phone market.

The iPod doesn't have the best battery life. Nor the best sound quality. Nor the most features. It's more expensive than competing, similar products. And everyone and their grandmother have one.
But darn...it's a fantastically well designed piece of hardware. Ditto for iTunes, which I used to loathe with immense passion. iTunes is a bit of a hog in Windows, but it's a textbook example of good design. User friendly, yet powerful.
I thought I'd never say this, but my when I upgrade my portable media player at the end of the year, chances are I'll get another iPod.
