Apple care just gave me a new laptop

They replaced my almost year old macbook polycarbonate with a NEW alu polycarbonate 13" macbook pro. I convinced them that my macbook should not be in apple care all the time (3 times specifically) for case issues, especially when the computer is not even a year old yet.

$100 dollars later and they got me a macbook pro in the mail coming. I was going to try to void the 100 dollars but it was either pay 100 or get polycarbonate unibody ;/

The new 13" MBP is pretty good, all things considered. Just because it doesn't pack an i3 or i5, does not make it slow >.<

Personally I dont use laptops enough to warrant anything over 400 or so.
but i would consider selling it and getting a core i7 Quad core. Unless your main need is portability lol.

HP for 875 on slickdeals.
Intel Core i7-720QM Quad Core 1.6GHz Processor
15.6" WXGA HD LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768)
4GB DDR3 Memory
640GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Lightscribe Blu-ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 320M

hmmm I already have a desktop (q9300) etc etc
So I have my power computer already

Just looking for an ultraportable laptop.
Either keep this one (MC374LL/A) or buy something pc, like lenovo's x201? I think

What would be best for an EE major?

Windows, but you can run windows on mac sooo. I wouldnt personally buy a mac to run windows. Since the pc alternative is so much cheaper. Though mac is nicer ascetically.

If i was you i would keep the laptop. The core 2 duo is still very good. Bat life is awesome, still got a vid card upgrade.

What's an Aluminum Polycarbonate Macbook Pro? You mean Unibody Polycarb Macbook, right?

Mac Book Pro on boot camp is giving us a lot of issues with right click, I'd personally buy a real windows laptop instead of relying on boot camp.

Got the laptop yesterday and well...i am very impressed.

The reason why I bought my apple in the first place was to have something reliable, os wise. I have a gaming desktop already, so I figured a Mac laptop would fulfill my needs. This Aluminum really does have amazing build quality; and I'm not really a apple fan boy but I do love how many accessories accompany this laptop. I already purchased again, a speck clear case with macstyle stickers. It'll be B.A to say the least.

Also I am not one for always giving a good word on customer support for big major companies but I applaud apple on keeping everything domestic and having knowledgeable employees...Gee I wonder why apples are so expensive? A huge part is advertising and having a well rounded group of employees, that actually know their stuff and aren't scripted.

I absolutely love this laptop, I was still thinking about a Z yesterday but after playing with OSX again; I can save windows my desktop. Plus the battery life is awesome; no where near the 10 hours but 7 hours is pretty damn good.

I agree, I ove mine too.. its an awesome little machine. If you haven't actually pushed the 320m yet, you may be surprised... very fast for a low power integrated chipset graphics GPU....

if they went with an i3 they woulda had to redesign the whole thing to fit in a dedicated GPU+memory, or just stick to intel HD graphics which woulda MAJORLY sucked.

I was reading that as well. Since intel won't let nVidia do their own thing with the chipset, and since they moved the memory controller back off the CPU die, if Apple went with a Core i3 in the MacBook Pro 13, they would have had to find a way to either cram a third package onto the logic board (almost impossible) or make the intel integrated video not totally blow (almost impossible).

Or, they stick with the reasonably fast, previous generation kit, upgrade the GPU and call it a day.

Next revision they will probably remake all the MacBook Pros to a new design.. that is big enough to house everything needed in all 3 sizes... and give it a new look. Unless nvidia and intel are settled by then and nvidia makes chipsets for the newer processors.
