So apple has announced carplay which is ios integration into vehicles. I see 2 sides to this. If it get better mobile phone integration into the vehicle that is a good thing. However, if it means that i can only use my ios products with my car that is not a good thing.

I keep my car far longer them i keep my mobile phone, so while i have an iphone right now, i might not when i replace it. i don't want to have worry about that when i replace my phone. i have a hyundai santa fe right now, and it only has integration with iphones, and i am already seeing problems with it, because as time had gone on it has started to have issues with newer iphones. I plan to keep using the car for several years, so i worry that it will not work with the next model all together then i am screwed, or if i want to get an anandroid device instead.

I prefer how my wife's fusion does it where it does not care which phone i have, it can work with it no problem.

Thoughts?

Most higher end car systems are pretty much iOS only already, I know my $800 Pioneer touch screen unit doesn't do sh*t with Android outside of basic BT stuff, and that doesn't even work to well. When I hook up my iOS device I can do everything. I can't see this being too much different, and not just because it's Apple though. It's how every company outside of a few quirky ones do it. I would imagine it'll work for audio streaming and phone but not much else.

google has linked up with GM/honda/audio for it's android in the car initiative.

i believe one of the problems is that apple won't certify an accessory for iOS compatibility if it is also compatible with android (outside of common standards like bluetooth)
