Apple can't spare a piece of string

So, last week, I was getting ready to take my shuffle for a jog. But a look around my backpack and I realize I left the lanyard at the football stadium. Doah! I call Apple and explain the situation, and they direct me to iPod's support site. I filled out the form and what do I find today in my mailbox?

An iPod shuffle dock.

I give apple another call to tell set things straight, and perhaps to tell them what idiots they are, but surprisingly, the Apple rep had an explanation for all this:

"We are not allowed to replace bundled accessories."

But, he adds, if I wait seven weeks I can buy a sport case - right now, I will have to be satisfied with a free dock.

I am not sure which apple executive drew up this stupid policy; where I can get a new $30 dollar dock for free but not a piece of string that costs less than a dollar to manufacture. Screw it, there are always homemade lanyards

They probably make the exact same amount of lanyards as ipods, so they don't have any spare ones in stock to use as replacements.

Anyway, I brought in an out-of-warranty laptop to one of thier stores last week with a dead motherboard, and they decided to not charge me the $300 replacement fee, jsut cause they felt like giving me the repair for free. That was nice of them.

did you already have a dock?

does a dock come with a string?

The shuffle plugs right into my laptop's USB port, so I do not need a dock. And no, the dock does not come with a lanyard 😕 It is basically an extension cable for people with hard-to-reach USB slots.

Sure, the dock is worth more, but I cannot wear the shuffle around my neck anymore.

what are you gay ?
Be happy with the dock.
Now you can charge your shuffer or whatever on the dock

I agree with the other posters, you lost something and expected Apple to replace it because of your mistake? Then, when they send you something for FREE you get angry because you didn't get what you wanted?

That's what I'm confused about too...

Instead of stringing you along, they dicked you with a dock.

Apple bites.

This is just dumn on so many levels.

I had apple replace the include remote for my 20gb last week, with no problem, the guy had his head up his ass, call back, ask to speak with a supervisor, etc..., yoou'll get ur lanyard

on 2nd thought, i realize you lost the landyard, not broke it.

You are now, and forever will be dumn. Apple techs are dumb, (at least they are really gullible) so all you had to say was like" the lanyard ripped, and i need a new one".

The sad thing is you called apple wanting a replacement from apple, when all you had to do was get a freaking shoelace.

But then it wouldn't be a fancy *APPLE* string.

Apple's really on to something when it comes to getting their users to demand authentic Apple products...even for the stupid things.

Not entirely angry (after all, I got a $30 dock) at them, I just think that they are stupid for making that policy.

[EDIT]: newParadime, it would not matter if I told them it had ripped because for them to replace bundled accessories "the defective product must be returned."
