Well, it was only a matter of time.

I, however, will not buy antivirus software from McAfee or Symantec. Hopefully AVG or Eset comes out with a good solution.

I suppose we all knew this day would come eventually. Can't live in the realm of obscurity forever....

Luckily, my university provides us with McAfee for free... so I'm ahead of the game. :p

As long as you are smart about it, you should be fine. Plus there really aren't any viruses out there, they're just proof of concepts.

i run antivirus on my xp machine just because I tend to test stuff i probably shouldn't. only a few times have I picked up a virus, and that was the scanner picking it up.

What I would like is a better UI for the firewall on OS X. I'd like to make explicit ports open, not just by program.

Yea.. I don't do much, if any, testing on my XP box. In fact, I'm pretty basic on my OS X box as well. I have a few 3rd party apps that I have gotten to like, but I generally am not to quick to throw apps on my system, so that might be why I haven't gotten any viruses.

And for those of you who are going to chime in, yes, I do realize that I should be running AV software... oh well...

yes there is, but at the moment it only checks for linux and windows viruses. Mostly just windows.

I'm not going to bother until I see articles on slashdot about worms of viruses taking mac users by storm.

I am with Sourceninja on this one. Until such time as I see an actual threat reported, I will not install any software that will simply run superfluously in the background. Since there are no truly malignant and rampant viruses out for OS X any and all AV software for OS X would be unproven and possibly unreliable.
