Is this a joke? LMFAO. Full story here.

<< for its outstanding technical contributions to the music industry and recording field >>

Check out some of these quotes from "the pros:"

<< every single recording nominated this year was touched by Apple technology >>

<< I?ve never met a creative professional who uses anything but Apple. We?re in the business to make hit records. What do you expect artists to use? Some kind of accounting system? I think not. >>

<< but the thing that?s great about using these programs on a Macintosh is they?re seamlessly integrated into the Macintosh environment. If you have a problem you?re certainly not autoexec.batting things >>

apple traditionally makes the best user interfaces in the business. Its much easier for someone who's not as technically savvy to do creative audio/video editting using their products.

d1abolic, where have you been living? Apple has ALWAYS dominated the music and film industries. It's not always about the speed of the processor but instead the power of the program. Apple's the leader in that area, hands down. Look at the iPod.

PCs are slowly catching up but not there yet......maybe never will be.

ditto the previous comments. musicians make music, they dont play RTCW, or run linux. apple does some great things, just because they don't have the fastest processor doesnt mean jack.

btw, OSX owns Windows XP.

d1abolic,

You really should check yer facts before you ram yer foot in yer mouth. You go into any audio recording studio or film/video/tv post production house and you'll see everything being done on Macs. The only exception is that graphix/visual FX will usually be done using a proggie like Smoke running on an SGI machine.

Apple also recieved an Emmy in 2001 for Firewire.

Well, the quotes show a lack of current knowledge of Windows (for example, autoexec.bat is dead since Win 2K), but the fact remains that historically Apple has been superior in the A/V field. IMO, the x86 world is rapidly gaining ground and has come very close, but the deficit was so large for so long that the perception of an x86 being an accountant's or businessman's machine reigns and this perception will take a long time to dissipate. As someone who has used 2K, XP, and OS X, I have to say that they are all about equal, though XP has the best legacy support in my experience. OS X is a huge improvement over OS 9 though, it's nice that Mac finally has memory management.

Someone care to explain to me why exactly Macs are superior to PCs when it comes to creating music?

Easy, better pro level audio/video hardware and software is available for Macs, than for PCs. And because Macs are a "closed" system (i.e. every G4 is basically the same) they allow for better hardware and software integration and have fewer hardware/software conflicts. In audio/video production stability is paramount and it's much easier for companys to R&D products to work solidly on the Mac platform than to test hundreds of different proc, mobo, chipset, video card, sound card, etc., combos so they can say their product will probably work on most PCs. Some programs, like Pro Tools or AVID Express, have Mac and PC versions. And in my experience the PC versions have more hang-ups, crashes, and misc errors that require reboots, even on PCs "certified" by software and/or hardware manufacturer.
