Apple approves Opera Mini in app store

I will try it, but I don't think it will measure up to Safari. Nice to have a choice for a different browser though.

I think this was an easy choice for Apple. It offers a service that the built-in web browser doesn't have, a proxy server.

Sweet, so will opera be able to sneak some flash in? Actually i dont need flash on my iphone lol

hmm, I really love the way it handles tabs, but the scrolling and zooming sucks compared to safari. If only we could get these kinds of tabs into safari heh. The tabs even seem to load in the background

I can't figure out how to zoom out at all on some pages, like these forums. It starts way zoomed in, and you can't zoom out at all. Other pages I've tried I've been able to double tap to zoom in and out.

zooming sucks pretty bad, safari does zooming really well. On wifi is there a speed difference? I can't really tell.

Just learned the hard way don't shut the app down with multiple tabs open and then try to re-open it. It had a bunch of blank tabs that I could do nothing with, and couldn't get to any sites. I was able to get it to try to access sites by going through history, but then the browser went nuts. I ended up having to reboot.

I'm not finding it too much faster than iCab with ad blocking on, maybe a hair...but this zooming is horrendous. I simply cant deal with it.

I love how it just goes back to a cached page in memory instead of reloading and rerendering the whole thing.

But the zooming....wow, total fail. That was the feature that made mobile safari the first legitimate mobile browser, and they totally blew it.

Yech. I am writing this post from mobile opera on thw iphone - oh look at that - auto correct doesnt work in this text field! Wtf.

I came here to say the text rendering was awful but now im gonna have to stop cause i dont wanna type to carefully forever.

I find it quite fast, love the tabs. Zooming works for me but does not seem always as smooth as Safari. One issue in my iPhone 3g is the new Homepage for Anandtech at the top where it shows you are logged in is missing that bar where you select Forums! It's fine in Safari.

I am sure they will improve it if Apple does not stop them. I hope it sticks around because it's quite nice in many ways.

No wonder they approved it... it blows compared to Mobile Safari. Sure it's a bit faster to load pages, but scrolling feels weird and zooming is a nightmare! Not to mention the pages have so many rendering errors it's not funny :-/ Even the iPhone optimized ones...

ATF and AT main sites look weird (AT has errors) - how do you zoom out when the page already loads zoomed in? Absolutely hate it... I remember why I stopped using Opera on my PC.

You guys should try Mercury Browser - it's a Safari clone but has fullscreen browsing. Something I wish Apple would implement. And it works really nice!

I really wanted to like this, but after testing it constantly since last night, I think I'm gonna go back to Safari.

I like the tabs. Speed is not that much faster on my 3GS (on wifi and 3g). I HATE the zoom. It sucks pretty bad. On top of that, some pages are either zoomed in too much and I can't zoom out (like AT), and some are zoomed out way too much (yahoo desktop version is an example).

And and this is a very minor, but I don't like the fact that once you select a link from the drop down, you still have to press "Go" to go to that link. In Safari (or most desktop web browsers) you just click on the link and it takes you there right away.

I think this was an easy choice for Apple. It offers a service that the built-in web browser doesn't have, a proxy server.

Where did you find the proxy server settings? I looked in Settings - Privacy and Advanced, and found nothing. Any tips? TIA!
